Christmas Surprise
« on: December 29, 2014, 03:40:17 PM »
Had a knock on the door this weekend and 5 year old and his mom were there. With a little prompting from mom, the young guy handed me a Christmas card addressed to Mr Lights!  Inside were 4 tiny candy canes and a note saying that my Christmas lights were awesome.

This make all the time, frustrations, and hard work all worth-it.

It is amazing when it happens.  We had something similar, but instead of candy I was given a $5 bill.  I have kept the notes I got in prior years too.

3 years ago, a boy came to the door with a detailed color sketch of my yard. Virtually every element was there. I had noticed that he came by frequently with his mom. He said they lived about 3 blocks away.

On Christmas Eve, he was outside and I was talking to him and his family. He said, "I'm the one who gave you the drawing." When I told him it was still on my refrigerator, he was shocked. His mother cried. They had moved away and this was the first time they had been back.

But so far, I haven't gotten any cards or candy. :(

Nothing this year since I only got my display up & running ONE night...   But last summer we were at subdivision swimming pool chatting with a young lady who was there with her small children.  When we told here where we lived (about 100 yards from pool..), she excitedly said "yours is the Christmas house!".  Her little girl (about 3 years old maybe) wanted to go see our display EVERY day.   So I second the motion--that was exciting to us!!  It double & triple bummed me out that we didn't get up & running for some of the little kids.

Cookies, chocolates and cards, but that doesn't compare to what happened on Dec 18th this year, Santa night was that night, we had a pile of kids, towards the e of the night I noticed a Mother taking pictures of me, ( dressed as Santa ) I said she was more than welcome to to get a picture with Santa and that the Elf could snap the picture. She was thrilled, then she said she sure wished her boy could get picture with Santa, I asked where he was, she told me he was in the van, I said bring him over, she said it is to hard to get the wheelchair out in the snow. A lump formed in my throat and I did what anyone would do, I told my Elf to go and tell the Dad to bring the van right up front and center on the street for all to see.  When the van pulled around the corner I motioned for the Dad to pull over to the side right in front of the display, when I opened the van door the little boy was so excited, not only did he receive a candy cane and a wooden toy from Santa he also got his picture taken. People ask why I do this, well this is definitely one of the reasons.

I have yet to get anything like this, however, on Halloween, I'm usually out front and hearing the kids saying, "we always come to your Christmas show because it's awesome" truly brings a smile to my face.  That story is awesome!
