Can I Have Multiple Models For The Same Channels?
« on: January 25, 2014, 11:58:12 AM »
Before getting too far into sequencing my new RGB lights, which I will be using for the first time in 2014, I want to make sure that I'm doing what I want correctly.  I have sidewalks and driveway that I'm lining with Pixabulb RGB strings.

One of the effects that I envision creating is to have a chase go from the left edge of the yard, then up to the left side of the driveway to the house, then down the right side of the driveway to the right side walk and finally down that sidewalk to the right edge of the yard.  I created an test model called "Yard" and it is a single line model starting at the bottom left with channels 1 - 100.

Another effect that I would like to create is where a chase starts at both the left and right side of the house, goes down the driveway and then out to the edges of the yard.  I created a test model for the left side of the yard called "Left" and it is a single line model starting at the bottom right with channels 1 - 50.  I also created a test model of the right side of the yard called "Right" and it is a single line model starting at the bottom left with channels 51 -100.

For the left to right chase effect, I programmed the Nutcracker grid as:
Left: None,None, No Palette Color Selected
Right: None, None, No Palette Color Selected
Yard: Spiral, None

For the mirrored house to edge of the yard effect, I programmed the Nutcracker grid as:
Left: Spiral, None
Right: Spiral, None
Yard: None, None, No Palette Color Selected

When I use the preview window, I'm seeing the effects on the 3 models that I expect, but I want to make sure that the generated sequence will have the expected values since I am duplicating the channels in the various models.

Thanks,

Jim

Duplicate channels are ok, I use that also, but if you were to have sequencing in both models only one takes effect.  I'm thinking it is the first one in the sequencing window starting from the left.  Sean wil correct me if I'm wrong.

When you Save, look at the bottom left of the screen. It will tell you which model is being saved as it steps through them, one at a time.
Whichever one is Saved last, wins. That's what will be in the XSEQ file.

Yep, Jon has it right. We render your models from left to right. If you have duplicated channels, whatever is the last model rendered overlays previous channels

Sean,

Thanks for response.  I was concerned that what I was seeing in the preview tab would not be what was actually displayed, since I have seen some strange behavior when I have previewed some simple effects (i.e., models displaying the last thing that I had previewed in the Nutcracker tab, even though there were no effects defined in the final sequence).  I'm assuming that jnealand models work since he was using a function in the controller to change which channels were being used for a hybrid model as he described in http://nutcracker123.com/forum/index.php?topic=24.msg128#msg128.

Is the capability to disable generating sequence information for a model in the sequence grid something that I should add as a feature request to http://nutcracker123.com/forum/index.php?board=4.0?  I ask, since I like the user interface for xLights/Nutcracker and had planned on using it to generate all of my sequences for my FPP/FPD to F-16s and LOR AC controllers after importing my current LOR S3 sequences into xLights.  My goal is to minimize the number of tools that I need to learn to sequence my next Christmas light show.

Thanks,

Jim
