Suggestions on creating this effect
« on: September 03, 2023, 12:13:49 PM »
Hi folks, looking for some suggestions on trying to create an effect on a model.

I want to take a part of a song where a choir is singing in the background, and assign that choir to a particular model and the result being like the VU meter effect.

The actual VU effect doesn't quite work as it is VU'ing all the sound and I just want to emphasize the choir. So in essence, I would like a more manually controlled VU effect. Lets take the straight part of a candy cane for example. I would like the pixels to increase from bottom to top to the height I want and be able to fluctuate up and down the amount I want to simulate the choir singing. My thinking at the moment is this will require stacking several effects. Doesn't have to be perfect but if someone could help put me on the right path I would appreciate it. My wrist is killing me with all the clicking around.

Messing with the ON effect accomplishes what I would like to do but instead of turning all the pixels on, I would like to have them ramp up from bottom to top at different heights depending on the volume of the choir singing.

I'm coming from years of LOR so I'm finding xLights far more robust. For example, with LOR an effect was an effect. With xLights, an effect can be the result of many settings within that effect, a recipe so to speak. Is there a place to find effect "recipe's"?

Thanks for your time,
Jeff
