LOR conversion to XL 4
« on: April 22, 2015, 02:36:14 PM »
Having some problems with my LOR lms file conversion.  I did this last year on an older XL version (3.4) with no issues. Here is what I have done thus far:
1) Created new sequence with my old .xml file   Plays fine, see RGB models in preview. I did not convert my .lms file at this time.
2) Did a convert from .lms file to fseq.  Did this a couple times, checking and unchecking the "LOR import options".
3) Process completes, no errors except for empty channels.  Models created (same as last year) and are visible in the preview panel but will not play lights.
4) I did re-save sequence, also selected 'render all'. Shut down XL and restart and re-opened sequence.
5) Only have my RGB models in the Sequence tab, no AC at all.

Not sure what I may be doing wrong.

The best way to handle an LOR .lms file is to import it as a Data Layer in the Sequence Settings dialog.  We've talk about that in several threads.  The reason your data is disappearing is now the default behavior is to clear out the sequence data before rendering.  You can change that option under Sequence Settings -> Render Mode.  Change it from "Erase Mode" to "Canvas Mode".  But be aware that using that method your data cannot be restored if you delete a NC effect or change the length of an effect.  That's why the Data Layer method is better because you will never lose your data and don't need to keep re-converting it unless you change your source LOR file.  In the Data Layer mode if you change the source file just go there and click Re-Import and we will reconvert from the original source file.

Thanks Gil - I did remember some thread discussions on the data layers but it did not register with me. I was stuck in 2014 mode.  Did the data layers, verified the iseq file, rendered all, and ran sequence. I need to double check sequence in LOR but some channels were not moving as I remembered them.  Channels did not change so i will double check before posting if I see any issues. Thanks for quick reply.
