It helps if you use the terminology in the program like telling us what menu or dialog and button names when describing what you are doing because I have no idea what you did when you say you "converted the layers".  Are you creating Data Layers?  What "update information" are you talking about that is being lost?  If you want to use data from last year the main key is stay away from the Convert tab...that's not the right place to be doing that.

After much effort and lots of confusion over the task it appears the best solution is to repair the imported sequences.  Just make the correct effects on the elements in question and save them, thus replacing the imported colors and movements with ones that are right for the given element.  Thanks again for trying to help me with my confusion.
