Well you still can do the zig-zag in xLights if needed.

Gil, could you describe how to accomplish this within xlights? I tried to do this on a model and what I noticed was that the effects would not work the way I wanted. For example, I did zigzag on a mega tree and then applied the bars effect. The bars weren't the same across each string, they were following the zigzag.

Thanks.

if you set the # of strands per string to 2 in the model definition - would that not achieve the zig zag ?
Actual # of strings = 8
# of RGB nodes per string = 150
# of strands per string = 2
Starting corner bottom left
(This would cover 600 nodes) and would indicate a 75 up followed by 75 down if you started at the bottom

To cover the entire model- extend the above counts to cover the 26 strips.. ie would be 13, 150, 2 (I think)

Yeah in the model definition strands per string defines the zig-zag.  So like for my pixel tree which is 32x42 I tell it I have 8 strings with 168 nodes per string and 4 strands per string.  So we divide 168 / 4 and get 42 nodes per string.  So I drive 32 strings with 8 outputs with each output working in a zig-zag pattern flipping direction every 42 nodes.

Thanks for that Gil. I was definitely doing it wrong when I tried.

bigstott sorry i didnt get your message until this morning.  i do have some news i have 3 out of my 4 outputs working well.  My 4th output has a lag/delay (small but noticable) and i dont know if that is because of my layout or what but i found for me that in xlights i set the universe to 510 seems to work best.  When i did it to 512 all the strips would be different colors.  i still need to do more testing.  Anyone have ideas why one of the outputs might be reacting different.

Yes - in most controllers you should only used 510 , not 512 .
Are you by any chance using a model group to drop the effect or a model ?

If you place the bar effect at the model level, do you still see a lag on some of the strings ?
the other option for the delay could be that your channel count for the legs not working may be a bit out ?

You could redefine those outputs in another model ("Output 4)  , that is 450 channels , (use the Copy model function) , set start number as calculated and drop an effect on the new model ("output 4") on another section of time, and only the last output should light and see what happens.

Not in MOST, but in many.  Falcon and Lynx use 512 without issue.

yes - I was not sure which ones support 512 - am getting my first Falcon next month to play with, but even then will remain under the 510 limit as it is then easier to swap controllers if you had to without worrying about this.

Universes directed to a P10 panel must be defined as 512 though..

i did more testing and the only thing left to work out is on output 4 is a lag/ incorrect output.  everything works in the test mode and in the old old xlight B which is what holiday coro says to test with.  but the minute i go to xlights 4 it messes up. hopefully i can attach the video.  see the 6 strips on the right

How exactly are you setting things up in xLights4 for the test?  I've got real time effects outputting from XL4 going to over 50,000 channels so there is no issue with the program being capable of driving the data.

gilrock i was not suggesting that the program couldnt handle it i was just looking for help as to why only 1 output has an issue.  even when i switch it to other light strips the same thing happens when it comes out of output #4 and i have 2 controllers and its the same for both.  most likely i have something setup wrong. and i was hoping someone had a suggestion.
