Where does a LOR S3 user begin with Xlights / Nutcracker
« on: June 02, 2014, 04:32:08 AM »
I know LOR S3. No clue about Xlights / Nutcracker. Where do "Newbies" begin? I started looking at the May 15th tutorial and feel I probably need to start from the beginning  ;)

Sooooo where might that be?
Robert

Sean does post videos on Vimeo of each session.

His Vimeo page is:  https://vimeo.com/user10339343/videos

The "title" of this one:  https://vimeo.com/64391490   sounds promising, "Apr18 Intro Vixen LOR"

Well.....
I did take a look at a bunch of videos. As they say though, if you don't use it you'll lose it ;-) I need back and rewatch some of the videos. I know the Jan9th is a intro to Xlights (which I will watch again). Is there one for Nutcracker as well.

REALLY need to start sequencing so I better get up to snuff on how to use this software!

Thanks!

Each session Sean recorded is posted on that same web site. Look at the title description to select what topics you want to hear.  I went back into 2013 recordings to pick up several topics even though the software has changed some.  Other than the one mentioned above, there is no single all inclusive video on NC.

Yeah, but that's the problem, there is no basic intro to anything close to the current NC. I feel your pain, Robert, I'm trying to pick it up this late, too.

...and I applaud Sean for ALL the hard work he has put into this software (and the gentleman who put together Xlights as well!). We need more people like this to keep the hobby moving forward. Kind of erked at LOR for what they are charging for Superstar...and that is why I am here.

I know in the vid (still haven't seen it all yet...long day at work) Sean mentions about a instructional pdf of Xlights / Nutcracker, but time has not been his side. I know what you mean brother!  Maybe someone that is sharp with this could step up and help out with that project. I just know that there are probably many of us that are jumping into this now...and need the guidance. :-)

RobertB--I would encourage you to just JUMP IN and start using XL/NC.  Last year was my first year to sequence and I used LOR S3 as my sequencer.  I jumped into pixels about this time last year (which was pretty late for me because all this computer stuff takes me time to understand...).  Anyway, I had been introduced to XL/NC at a Mississippi mini so I decided to try my hand at XL/NC.  It is extremely straightforward to use.  I setup effects for six RGB arches in XL/NC then exported them into a dummy LOR file I made just for imports, then cut/pasted them into my LOR sequences.  It worked really well.  There are probably more sophisticated methods of doing this but I didn't have a lot of time to learn so that's how I did it last year.  My two cents.

Been trying to see how to make a dummy file for LOR as well. I can get a .las to come up, but nothing in the file. Been looking through videos to find that and haven't ran across this yet.

How did you do this?

The best way to get something into LOR is to create your models and effects in NC, save the file just so you have it for later.  Next, choose option to export model and the first option is for .lcb file. That is a clipboard file in LOR. Name the file. Then in LOR, you add that clipboard to your sequence and choose where you want to paste it.

Under the videos in vimeo, look at jan9. That was the intro video.

I'm sorry, I spoke out of turn. The only intro video I had seen was way back before integration with XL. Somehow I missed the Jan 9 one. Watching it now. Thanks as always, Sean.
