First video of the year!
« on: November 22, 2015, 07:04:20 PM »
Thanks so much to everybody here for all of the help they have offered... I finally finished my first song and couldn't be happier... after 2 years (2013 and 2014) of struggling with LSP and having to settle with general, boring animation RGB sequences, it is so nice to get back to having music as part of the display and that wouldn't have been possible without xLights.  Thank you so much to the developers for putting together an awesome piece of software!

Constructive criticism is welcome   ;)

I'm already a quarter done with song number two and I see this getting faster and faster...

Nice setup. Where are the strobes from?

Thanks guys.  The strobes on the roof are from 3G Light Creations:

http://store.3glightingcreations.com/products/C9-Strobe-Clear.html

They had a deal wherein if you bought a full case of 100, they were only around $4.25 each so another local guy and I split a case.  I have another 40-50 that I was intending to wrap around the megatree, but the super-white "sparkle" effects in xLights look so amazing on their own... I don't think I need 'em... more for the roof-line next year I guess!

Nice job. Looks great. I really like the look of your display - all the benefits of RGB pixels but still retaining that very traditional christmassy look.

Very well done.   Looks great.   Obviously lots of attention to detail in your sequencing!    How did you do the strobe effect on your roofline lights?   That looks great!

Thanks Dan.  Actually... that strobe effect on the roof line are just old fashioned strobe lights!  Here's the thing.  I have always used the xenon arc, u-tube style strobes to line the roof.  This year, a local guy and I split a 100-pack that was on sale and I planned on also doing the "wrap the megatree" with strobe approach that I've seen so many people do over the years... well, in this first song I sequenced, I tried the sparkle effect and son of a gun.... that looks WAY better than any strobe could ever look IMHO because I can make it super dense without requiring a ton of $5-6 strobes...  Now, the reason I still use them on the roof is that my roof consists of Technicolor lights with the c9 diffuser bulb cover... and that obviously immensely limits the impact of the sparkle effect out of xLights...

So, to answer your question, there are approximately 25 strobes on the left-side, two-story portion of the house and then another 15 or so on the garage gable on the right.  Now that I know I'm not going to use them on the megatree, next year I plan on doubling those up.
