XL 4.3.02 Font Colors Not Applying in Text Effect
« on: January 20, 2016, 10:48:09 PM »
Hello;

Trying to change the font color for lines 1 & 4 in Text Effect using the color choices in the font dropdown.  The colors do not apply to the text in the text preview screen. Easily replicated, as it happens every time.  I'm running XL4.3.02 on Windows 8.1.

Thanks!

That's because the colors come from the Color Palette like all the other effects.  First color for 1st line, 2nd color for 2nd line and so on.

Ahhhh.....I had tried the color palette, but because I was using lines 1 & 4 and leaving 2 & 3 blank, it wasn't picking up the second color.

Hmmm...so this means you can't repeat colors within the 4 lines then, right? Line 1 - red, line 2- green, line 3 - red, line 4 - green??

edit: and one other question, if I may - should XL remember which windows were active when it closed, and open only those windows again when I reopen it?  I'm talking about the preview model window, whole house model window, etc.

Thanks!

You can make your color palette red, green, red, green, etc.  if you want.  You're in control of every color on that palette panel.  Just click on each color and change it to whatever color you like.  Every effect can have a different set of colors.  Sometime this year we plan to modify the text effect so that its only 1 line so if I were you I wouldn't use the multi-line feature.  I'd use multiple layers on the model to do more than one line at the same time.

Your window positions are determined by the perspective that's loaded so if you move them around you need to save the perspective. You can create/save multiple perspectives.

Gil I don't understand why you would change it could you expound your reasoning?

It will be easier to make the positioning controls work for just 1 line instead of trying to have positioning sliders for all 4 lines.  You can easily just have a new effect for every line you want.  Dan and I both had reasons we wanted to make it one line.  I forget everything he mentioned.  My primary motivation is if its one line then it will be easier to allow the color palette to control the color of each letter instead of an entire line having the be the same color.

I also think the Vector motion option only works for the first line.  We would have never had 4 lines on that effect if it had been created after there was the option for more than 2 layers on a model.  Anyways I'm sure we will do a conversion that takes your 4 lines and splits it into 4 effects.
