Effects failure
« on: February 05, 2016, 12:36:30 AM »
Hello All,

I just upgraded to 2016.04 and the first 2 saved sequences I tried to open had problems.

They are older sequences (sorry don't recall what version they were completed under) and they do convert/load and I can see the sequence and effects but if I hit play I get a blank display.  If I click on the first effect (which is text on 1 sequence but a different NC effect on the other sequence) I get 3 messages:

Unable to find:ID:_SLIDER_Text_Position1
Unable to find:ID_CHECKBOX_Fit To Time
Unable to find:ID_SLIDER_Speed

Also I have this text saved as an effect preset and if I load it I get the same failure.  I have used this effect preset for 2 years probably over 50 times and never had this issue before.  I can type the same text in new and it works fine.

I tried a newer sequence and didn't get these messages so there appears to be something in the older setup that doesn't match the new version.

I don't have any issues if I create a new sequence but I can't use the old effect preset I mentioned....

Those settings haven't been there for at least 6 months, been a while.  In theory, the file loading should have mapped those.  Can you send one of the original sequences and the xlights_rgbeffects?   I'd  like to try and figure out why the loading isn't detecting that those need fixing.   You COULD load those into 4.3 and hit save and then load them into 2016.04.   That would likely fix them, but I'd prefer if we could figure out why 2016.04 isn't doing the updating.

The presets will likely need to be updated manually.  However, I'd like to get the file loading taken care of first cause then it SHOULD just be a copy/paste out of one of the sequences once it's loaded properly.

The presets should run through the FixEffectPresets function when the rgbeffects file is loaded and it should check the version number of the preset to see if it needs fixing.  It would help if you attached the original xlights_rgbeffect.xml and one of the sequences in their old V3 format.

Okay guys....will try to attach everything....Not sure if the original xlights_rgbeffect.xml is correct.  But I'm attaching the oldest one I can find It is the one named xlights_rgbeffect_OLD.xml.  It did, however, work with the effect preset that isn't currently working.  I didn't know about the backup function when I initially created the sequence....sorry.   :-[

Actually what I have attached is a partial song.  For some reason HLS has some sort of size restriction on the .hlsnc files it will drop into a sequence.  So, I have to break some songs into multiple short sections....Nothing to do with XL/NC whatsoever as what I create are just short/mini sequences.

If memory serves you need the sequence xml file....If you need the xseq file I'll have to find another way to get it to you as it is over the size limit for attachements here.

Do you need the accompanying mp3 file?  It is cropped version via Audacity of the full song.

There are also several pictures in the sequence...if you need them let me know and I'll try to attach if they're not too large.

If you need anything else....Let me know.

DKULP....I'm not sure how to go back to 4.3.....?

Thanks for the help.

That should be all we need.  I can't look at it till later today if Dan hasn't already fixed it by then. :)

Thanks guys.... No hurry on my part....  Just hope it helps others with older sequences that might run into the same problem.  It's about the only way I can contribute!   ;D

Hey guys,

2016.5 fixed the issue of importing the old sequence but when I try to load an Effects Preset I get the same errors.

It's definitely better because now, at least, I can get to the old sequence.....

Thanks for the hard work.....and fast response....you guys are amazing....

Yep the effect presets aren't being updated for the Fit to Time changes we did last year.  I was looking into how to fix them.  If it was an easy fix I would have had it done yesterday.

Thanks Gil..

I wasn't complaining.... Hope I didn't sound like i was....I just wanted to give an update....

I was tickled just to have the ability to use the old sequence.....I can work around the presets until you get them updated.....that isn't even close to a showstopper...  ;)
