help again
« on: May 29, 2016, 11:59:55 PM »
Hi,
I have 192 channels of LOR that I imported as a data layer in xlights vers. 2016.33. All channels in set up are correct. In the house preview the models and the song play correctly, but when I play it with the output to lights button on, the house model still works correctly but the lights hanging on my wall do not. They are very very slow and do not go off the beat. You can tell they are playing, but as the song gets longer the actual lights fall farther behind. I have changed the braud rate nothing seems to make any difference. In LOR, the visualizer and the lights hanging on my walls all play correct. It just don't play correct on the actual lights in xlights with the output to light button on. I don't know what to try, any help is appreciated.

I'm sure it is something simple since i'm new to xlights this year.
Thank you all for all your help.
David

David:
I had what appears to be a similar problem last year running an LOR CTB16PC controller as part of my display.   I pasted the link to my posts and responses I got last year; hope this helps you.   I had to abandon the LOR USB dongle and use one set of E682 outputs to output an open DMX signal to my CTB16PC to get any reasonable response from it--it was so slow you could hardly tell it was responding to the sequence at all until I went to open DMX.   Using open DMX worked pretty well.   I still ran into some weird problems with lights not turning on per as programmed in one sequence, but it wasn't a big deal so I didn't spend any time to try to fix that particular weird problem last year--I always planned to move to basically an all-RGB display this year (the only AC elements I will have this year are strobes)--so I won't have any reason to run an LOR CTB16PC at all--all e1.31 stream this year.

Well I'm not surprised that LOR is the best at controlling their own proprietary protocol.  I'm sure if someone spent a lot of time on it we could make it work as good as they do but there just hasn't been much interest in trying to perfect how their protocol works.  Everyone that moves to a more standard protocol doesn't have a problem.

..while not bashing LOR here...   I am moving to the DIYLEDexpress bridge (already built) and Renards (also already built) for my AC elements this year--good point as always Gil!

Interesting, I've read several posts about guys controlling their lor ac controllers via Falcon. I'm sorry, not a SanDevices user, but maybe it's possible the SanDevices boards stink. The op didn't state what he is using, I assume usb dongle? If so, that's a lot of channels. Try splitting into two networks and use the high speed dongle, or use dmx and the Falcon board.

When I was seeing the really S-L-O-W response from my LOR controller last year, I was running the LOR CTB16PC via the LOR-provided USB dongle.   Did some searching and asking, then changed my setup such that my E682 drove a DMX output to the LOR controller instead of the LOR protocol via the LOR USB dongle.   I just didn't have time to troubleshoot a few seconds of one sequence that messed up; all others did exactly what they were supposed to do..

Thanks all for the advice, I am using a usb dongle to control the LOR controllers and was using the usb485 and switched to the usb485b which is has a booster in it. Doesn't  matter bother have the same results. Since I can not afford the falcon controller (heard wonderful thing about it) I am going to try off of the e682 ( which is also new to me

SORRY HIT THE END BUTTON BY MISTAKE

I going to try off the e682 or turn the controllers to run DMX.  Don't now how to to do either so back to the drawing board.

If anyone could help point me in those directions would be great.
As always good advice on these sites.
Thanks

Thanks Danj I will look at you link you posted as it sounds like your CTB16PC where doing the same as mine.
thank you

While going from memory is somewhat dangerous....  What I remember is that I was able to choose "open DMX" from the xlights setup dropdown for the universe in which my LOR controller was located (I use the first 510 channels), then I ran a "balanced output" from the E682 to the CTB16PC--Jim St. John provides good jumper instructions for how to do this in the E682 manual--manual available on the SanDevices website.
