Changing colors of a layered effect
« on: July 20, 2016, 10:31:03 AM »
Is it possible to have a layered effect of white and another color (let's say red) and have the other color morph into another color (from red to blue)?  Could it be done for one of the layered effects and/or for all of the layers of effects?
I have a two layer effect of white/violet that I would like to morph to white/red.
Thanks.

I do that by placing 2 of the exact same effect on 2 layers. Each effect with different colors.  Use the morph checkbox on the Layer Blending window.  Effect 1 will morph into effect 2. Since the effects are the same, the pixels that light will be the same but the colors will morph from one to the other.  Morph meaning transition to in-between colors along the way.

Alternative way would be with 2 layers and one fades in while one fades out. You'll need to fiddle with the times so there's no dead spot in the middle of the fades.

A few other ways to do that too but those should get it going.

Another option would be on the bottom layer, use a color wash that washes through the colors you want.  On the top layer, use the effect you want, set the color to white, and the mix to "1 reveals 2".

Lots of ways of doing this.  :-)

I've tried the color wash several different ways but can't seem to get one color (white) to stick and change the alternate color.
The problem with fading out one effect and fading in another effect is, that if the lengths of times are different for each time you want to use the effect, you have to adjust the fade times.  I couldn't get all of the alternate color to disappear when trying this.
Steve, your first idea was close, but again, I had the alternate color mixed in.  The bad thing is that the save times jumped up ten fold.  It is only a two layer effect, but I will keep working on these ideas.

Ok you're missing something simple if you can't do Steve's idea.  Just create a Spirals effect with a white and red spiral.  Then create a second layer on the model and copy/paste the exact same effect underneath the first effect and change the red to blue so the bottom spiral is white and blue.  Then click the top effect and select the Morph checkbox.  The spiral will slowly morph from the white/red to the white/blue.

Yeah, Thanks.  The effects have to line up perfectly in order to work.    And the morph checkbox is on the top layer, I had both layers.

Yep everything you said lines up with the steps I gave.
