Text Effect Problem
« on: August 10, 2016, 07:38:34 AM »
Hey Guys I was working with the text effect and noticed that when I put text on lines 2, 3, or 4 the Y axis slider is not there and if I use the X axis slider it moves the text in a diagonal direction
Line 1 is as it should be
And it is the same on both my Windows and Mac machines using ver.45

Thanks
Scott

Don't worry we plan to delete lines 2, 3, and 4.  Maybe that's my next task.  I'd use only line 1 and then create multiple layers if you need other lines on the model at the same time.

yep 4 lines f text ws asked for back in 2013 when xlights 3.x was first created. xlights 3 could only do 2 layers. When xlights 4 came along in 2015 we got the ability to do hundreds of layers. we have talked about removing all that extra text lines, totally un-needed now. the biggest issue would be xlights 3 sequences that have 4 lines of text and getting them converted to be on extra layers on the model if they are not there now.

i sometimes wonder how much time we should put in to trying to automatically supporting the old sequences (from over two years ago) vs just asking people to edit their text if it was on multiple lines. Lots of stuff for the developers to work on. Gil will find out how hard it is to convert a 4 line text effect into 4 layers each with one line of text.

If its not easy then I guess I'd just add all the text together on one line with a "FIXME:" in front and let the users split the effects.  We've been advertising for some time to not use lines 2, 3, and 4.
