Do I need power Injection?
« on: November 05, 2016, 12:47:53 PM »
So I have the RGB 150/ 50 node strips from holiday light express. all tested good went to cut them and used some solderless 90 degree connectors. On the two I have done so far what I would call the 4 leg is way off color wise. Not sure if you can tell from picture. I know anytime you cut and use a connector you have the chance of a voltage drop but im not seeing it via meter. Has anyone had this issue? I would not think 3 splices would cause this much of an issue.

This does not answer your question but, IMHO, strips can be touchy as well as difficult to repair.  That is why I no longer use strips and do not recommend them.  The other downside in my book is the pixel density is so bright that it washes the color right out of any photos or videos.

I think you are right if i hold them just right they seem to kinda work then as soon as you let them go its back to wrong,  Cant turn back now, but think next year pre-sales im going to make the change to bullet pixels for sure. And yes my Halloween show was impossible to video on the phone because they are so bright.

I have megatree animations I play on both my trees.  One is 360 bullet pixels and other is strip pixels and I think the strips look nicer for the animations.

Ok Strip lights. My whole display is strips. As for the solderless connectors only once as I had to make a quick repair up 25 feet on my mage tree. those connectors are not very good weather wise. I have soldered all my connections.  I use flux and pre tin the strips and wires first before connecting them, I then seal the ends with silicone caulk. what I have seen on a 16 foot strip the white starts to go pink. What I do is every 32 feet add power.  On my mega tree 16" up 16' back down power is added at the start and finish. On my roof for Halloween I have 64 running feet per side with only feeds at the start and finish. you can see the white not doing too well in the middle of the run. Ill be adding a power feed in the middle of the 2 runs for x-mas. I just love the color fullness of strips.

I like them on my megatree. I also solder all my strips, and like babybear, I flux and pre-tin strips and wire and seal with silicone. I've had plenty of other issues with the strips I bought in 2013 but never with my connections. The quality of the strips from 2014 onward has been good.
