In the earlier releases of xLights 2016, I remember there was a feature checkbox called "In My Display" that  I presumed was used to hide/show individual models from appearing on the layout tab.  That seems to have been removed, because for the life of me I couldn't find a way to temporarily disable some models from the viewing screen, short of deleting them altogether.

There's gotta be a better way.  I would find this to be helpful in the scenario of testing out new, or alternative model ideas to see how they might look- before committing them to all of your sequences.  Can this be done using an existing feature I haven't discovered yet, or added in a future release?

Move your models from the default to unassigned preview.

I tried your suggestion.  Logically, that makes sense.  However, doing so made no visible change.  The models were still visible in the layout view.

I'm currently using xLights 2017.5, and have observed the same behavior with a handful of previous releases (did this just to test).

Run check sequence. You also need to remove the model from any groups in the default preview.

Also which View do you have selected in the top middle combo-box?  If it's All Models you will always see all models.  Switch it to Default and then if you still see models that are set to the Unassigned View then it's because they are members of a Model Group that is assigned to the Default View.

I was in the Default View, so switching the individual models to the Unassigned View made sense.  I hadn't considered the group membership aspect however, and sure enough they were also assigned to a group.  It appears that all group containers automatically place their contents in the Default View and are themselves unchangeable?

Removing them from the group did the trick, as both of you said.  Thanks for providing a definitive answer.

Model groups have a combo box to change which Preview they are assigned to.
