Mega Tree set up
« on: April 16, 2017, 03:29:23 AM »
I need help with my Mega Tree set up.

Its 32 strands 42 lights per strand. In an up down up pattern. I am using an ECG-P2 to control it.

Drawn in xlights the preview works fine.

However playing to my lights, xlights is sending all the data from the bottom up,  every strand, rather than then recognizing the up down nature of my Mega Tree.  (thus the fire starts at the top and the bottom and flames out in the middle of the tree)

I have looked at a few settings and even tried reversing every second string on the ECG, but can't seem to work it out?

Any ideas?

If you zig zag in Xlights do not zig zag in the controller as well. It has to be one or the other not both.

xLights preview is always going to look fine because we display the effect correctly no matter which start corner you are using or whether its zig-zag or not.  Without seeing your model property no way to tell if you have zig-zag.  If you have strands per string as 1 that's no zig-zag in xLights.

I don't recall seeing a zig zag option when I was setting up the model.  Will look when I get home

You won't find the words zig-zag...like I said we call it "strands per string".  So if you say you have 1 string of 100 nodes with 4 strands per string then guess what...that gives you 4 columns of 25 in a zig-zag.

Ok, wont lie strands per string kind of confuses me in that how do I define what a string is?

My tree has 32 strands and 42 nodes, over 8 universes.

The ECG-P2 does 4 universes per out put over 2 outputs.

I know the maths is easy, but the logic seems to be escaping me.....

I think a universe equals a string? So I think I have 8 Strings of 168 nodes over 4 Strands?

....

Tried and still no joy, had to edit channel numbers but this seems beyond me at this point.

Update,

Now sorted!  In then end it was probably silly errors, but what I though 8/168/4 and new channel numbers worked out.

Although I do think you can probably have more than one string per universe :)

Thanks for your input Gilrock :)

In my thinking a string is one output connection.

I have the exact same tree...my pixel tree is 32x42 and I use 8 outputs.  xLights doesn't really care which universes are used for each string.  The channels are just assigned absolute channel numbers based on the setup screen so the tree just assign channels in order unless you use the Individual option.  You can configure it almost any way you can dream.

As a comparison mine is 36x56 and I'm using 12 outputs. And I set up my zig zag in the controller. But if I was to set it up in xlights it would be three strands per string.
