it would be nice when people share their xml sequences they also include their xlights_rgbeffects.xml file and the xlights_networks.xml file. This way you can create a new folder put all files there , and just point your xlights to that as the show folder. Now when you launch you will see their exact setuo. You can browse their models, you can also see exactly what their show looks like in the preview. All preview settings are also stored in the xlights_rgbeffects.xml file.
the only thing missing is a sound file. I just pick any song, i use carold of the bells.mp3.
so my process to be able see peoples sequence exactly like they do
1) Request sequence files and the xlights_xxx.xml files
2) Create a new folder put their files there.
3) Add one sound file, i use carol of the bells.mp3
4) Go into xlights set show folder to be new folder i just created
5) Use the 3rd file open optin, create a new sequence from a sound file. NOTE: Click that you have an xml file.
6) It picks my carol of the bells.mp3 and prompts for an xml file
7) Click save. This now creates teh xseq file that was missing.

Go to preview and open xseq and rpess play. If the person had been using preview you will see their entire show.
9) Copy just their sequence xml file over to my show folder
10) change xlights to point to my show folder. You can also launch a second xlights, each can be pointing at different show folders.
11) In my xlights repeat steps 5) to 7) above. Now you are probably prompted for
"Ther eis a model xxxx in their sequence file, what model in your show do you want to use. It is much easier to decide this when you can see what their original models looked like.
BTW, this is an awesome feature of xlights (Which i did not make) that allows people to get a sequence moved over and allow you to see their show in the preview. Thanks to matt, dave, dan, don, frank for all contributing to the xlights framework.
I cant tell how useful it is to be able to troubleshoot when i can duplicate a persons environment.
so send your xlights_rgbeffects.xml and xlights_networks.xml
