Vendor Model Import
« on: January 15, 2018, 12:25:13 PM »
Keith,

Thanks for the video and the great new import feature. Is it possible to use this feature to update

existing models in our set up that are not very good. I used pictures in mine but did not come out

very good but would like to update using the new import feature.

Or do I have to delete the existing model and create a new one?

Thanks again, Ed

There is no way to switch any existing model.  Just import a new one and get it setup, delete the old one and rename the new one to the old name.  Then any sequence you use should use the new model but you may have issues if you had sub-models being used from the model.   There could be issues with that scenario since it may remove the sub-models when you delete the old ones.  The easiest way would probably be just create the new model and then edit the XML to delete the old one and rename the new one.  Backup everything before you experiment.

While Gil is right I do think we could make it easier for you to create a new replacement model. Set all its properties the same as the old one then provide an easy way to say replace that model with this model and ensure all the groups etc don’t get stuffed up. It will however require things like matching submodel names especially where those submodels are in groups.

Just to clarify, the vendor download model DOES include submodels (and face definitions), but the names may be different between what you called submodels and what the vendor download model has.  For example, for a spider, you may have created a submodel "leg1" and the vendor calls it "leg 1".  As Gil says, your sequences would now not see "leg1" because it no longer exists (even though "leg 1" does).

Hope this helps a little

Thanks Guys!

I don't have sub models so it shouldn't be too bad to delete and set up new models.

Appreciate the input and all the work you guys do!

As well as all the contributors to xLights!
