How to Setup and Layout 16SPI out Holidaycor
« on: October 22, 2018, 10:05:35 PM »
Since I'm new at this need help with 32 50node strings 16spi ports 360 tree MegaTree Setup and Layout.
32 Strings 50nodes with 16SPI out ports.
I tired 10 Universes in setup to cover the 4800 Channels?
In layout I tried:
Type = Round
Degrees = 360
Rotation = 3
bottom/top ratio = 6
Perspective = 2
#Strings = 2
Strands/String=1
Starting location = 1
Start ch= 1
Controller connection = WS2811:1

Do I have #strings and Strands/string reversed?

In sequencer various effects just don't look right.

If setting setup to 16 Universes
Layout Degrees 180, Round, rotaion 3, bottom top 6, #strings 16, nodes/string 50, strands/string 1, start loc bottom left, start channel 1
That works and looks good with various effects.

What am I doing wrong, only have 16SPI ports to work with but need 32 strings for the 360 deg tree?

thanks,

I'm not clear on how you plan to wire up your strings.  Is it going to be a 32x50 tree?  If you only have 16 ports then you're having to connect the top of every other string over to the next string right?  You really need to just explain how its wired and then we tell you how to represent it.  It sounds like you are saying you don't know how to wire it.  If you only have 16 ports then you gotta hookup 100 pixels per port so if its a 32x50 tree then that would make it an up/down zig/zag configuration.  The # of strings field is easy.  Just type in how many physical ports you are using to run the tree.  So if its 16 ports then type in 16 strings.  Then if its 100 pixels on each port then type in 100 nodes per string.  If that string folds back once then type in 2 strands/string.  Its a lot more simple than most people make it out to be.

Really helpful thanks.
See attached (did I understand the wiring ?)

I think I know how to set up/down zig/zag in controller.
Is there a setting in xLights for zig/zag ?
I’m not sure the house and model preview in xLights shows it right yet tough?

xLights settings after your help – again thanks.
Hoping to be able to have 32 50 node strings make a 360 degree tree (yes 32x50 tree).
32x50 Tree
16 SPI port Controller
Ok got the Layout part
16 Strings
100 nodes
2 strands/string (Two 50node strings end to end connected to each of 16 SPI ports)

Those settings in xLights already give you the zig zag you need so don't do it in the controller.  Zig zag occurs when strands per string is greater than one.  You can think of strands per strings as "number of zig zags per string plus 1"
