Background Layout File
« on: January 21, 2021, 06:56:54 PM »
Hello all. I?m restoring my Mac and I backed up my sequences, but I can?t find the actual background with the props. layout file? If I just reload the sequence, it won?t point to anything without the file. Any ideas in what folder does the Mac xlights store them in?  Thanks.

The first time you started the program you were prompted to select a "SHOW" folder so where did you put it?  If you can't remember I'm not sure but maybe a Mac user could tell you what to look for to find it.  In Windows I know I would look at a registry key that holds my last show folder but I don't know how that's done on Mac.

I do know where the show folder is, but we?re not able to label a file name for the layout and background; you just hit the save button in the background window and it saves the background and props. I need to find that file to import my layouts then I could load my sequence. I?ll keep looking I guess. Thanks.

Well if you just want the filename its xlights_rgbeffects.xml.  Inside that file it has a backgroundImage tag that specifies the file you chose for the background image.

Ok excellent!! Hopefully my layout and props are stored there.

Where should this file be placed in the PC folder?

Yeah, I can?t see how to import my layouts and props into xlights. I guess I have to start all over.

I was actually able to import all my models and props!!!!!  I opened xlights and clicked on the rgb backup file and it opened in xlights. Whew...close call.

The xlights_rgbeffects.xml file is stored in the show folder that you said you knew where it was but glad you found what you needed in backup.

That's why we auto backup on open because if something does screw up you can end up with an empty rgbeffects file.

Very true. When i backed up, I thought the show sequences had all the layouts and props included. Boy, was I wrong. Thank God I had the folders backed up as well.
