I've got a weird situation
« on: December 20, 2021, 11:18:47 AM »
I've got a weird situation happening with part of my display.  F16v3 with expansion board.  Driven by 4 - 30 amp PS's, 1 to each side of main board and expansion.  All 4 running right at 12v.  This just started in the last couple of days. I noticed when out taking a pic or two of my display lit up, I noticed that a couple of props were acting eraticly. When I run a test from the controller, all pixels light up.  When I run a sequence test from XL, everything works fine.  But - after dark as it cools down, and I start up my display, 1 prop does not light up at all, and 1 has only 30% of pixels lit.  I checked and retightened the cables.  Anyone else experience anything like this?

I have one output that seems to get worse when its colder.  Its always run great for several years but this year its getting flaky like a data integrity issue.  It will stop working and freeze and then a few minutes later starts working again without me touching anything.

So, I switched ports on the two props that were acting up and they worked fine all night.  These controllers are 4 years old, have been bulletproof, and up until this season have not been pushed hard at all.  I moved props from Port 4 to 5, and 7 to 8 and all is well.  Why would 2 ports out of 32 act up?

Hey David, if you see this, your thoughts???

Where did you switch ports? Was it at the circuit board or the pig tail connection.
Did you attach anything else to port 4 and 5 to see if the problem continues? Or waiting until after Christmas to troubleshoot.
Could be just a bad connection or a cold solder joint causing you problem.

I changed to a different pigtail.  Gonna leave well enough alone until after the season.  This is a Falcon board, so no DIY soldering, but I suppose that there could be an iffy joint on the board.

Understand on after the season
I did have some solder joint on boards I didn?t like and went back and reflow them.
