Title: Megatree
Post by: brianowenby on November 17, 2017, 04:53:48 PM
If I am going to run a 16 x 50 12v pixel megatree with a Falcon v3 controller do I need to run two power supplies? If so do you just connect one to one side of the controller and the second to the other side? I am running 350w meanwell power supplies.

I run an 18 strand x 60 node tree 12 tree.  I hook two strands together at the top for a 120 node string with 9 strings total.  I put the first 5 strings on outputs 1-5 and the last 4 strings plus the star on output 9-13 so that the power needs are also spread evenly on the two PS.

Combo is endless  my tree is 24 strands 150 nodes 3600 total.  I'm using 6 outputs  so each output runs up and down the tree 4 times. I power inject with nothing off the controller but ground and data. so all outputs are on one side. I'm using 2 600 watt power supplies. with yours you are hitting about 240 watts. so 1 power supply and all off 1 port. You would be under the 80% mark on your power supply. You would still have to inject with out going through the controller because of the 20 amp mark.  With your set up I would inject every 100 nodes. or you can fill all ports with no injection still only one power supply hooked to both sides of the controller. But that's 16 wires needed to be run. 18 gauge would work.  my way need 14 gauge to the start node then daisy chain the ground and positive to every 100th node.
