Do You Need Help? Post it here / DMX setup in Xlight for AC lights?
« on: December 10, 2018, 06:33:56 AM »
I’d appreciate your help and advice on the best way to setup Xlights to run over 100 AC channels in DMX mode.  What is the proper setup for DMX on the setup tab?

Hardware setup:
I have a cross-over cable that I understand goes into a DMX port on the pixel controller (PixLite 16), and then daisy chain the LOR controllers from the cross-over cable.

The LOR controllers will be set to Universe 1.

Xlights setup tab:

Do I use the “add E1.31 button” since it is coming out of an E1.31 network?  (I tried this method, but none of the AC channels would light up).
Or
Do I use the “add LOR button”, select what?
Or
Do I use the “add USB button”, select DMX as the protocol? If I use this, I assume I would change the hardware setup to have the RJ485 connected to USB port on the show computer; the cross-over cable would connect to the RJ485; then daisy chain the LOR controllers off the cat5 connector on the RJ485.

Is there anything I need to do within the LOR hardware utility to tell the LOR controllers to run in DMX mode?

I’ve searched the tutorial videos and found several videos showing how to sequence effects for AC channels.  However I can’t find one showing proper way to setup AC channels in DMX mode.

Thanks for your help!!!!!!

Do You Need Help? Post it here / Re: New preview for 2018?
« on: April 09, 2018, 10:27:39 AM »
Thanks Gil.   I have created a new show directory for 2018.  So the best way to modify the layout is to delete and add models?

Tks!

Do You Need Help? Post it here / New preview for 2018?
« on: April 09, 2018, 06:08:45 AM »
First, thanks to everyone, especially the “how-to” videos, those are a huge help.
Last year was my first year using Xlights for our display and it’s about time I get started sequencing this years layout.  I typically change some things around, add a few new props and switch out others to give the display a slightly different look.

A basic, newbie question: When I create a new preview for 2018 layout, how do I get some of the models used in 2017 layout to appear in the new preview?  Should I delete the models I’m not using, save that layout, and add new models?  Or is there a way to pull the 2017 models into the 2018 layout?

Is there a video that I've overlooked that shows the best way to modify an old layout for a new one?

Tks!
Joe

Do You Need Help? Post it here / Export channel layout?

Is there a way to export or copy and paste the channel layout page?  I’d like to have a complete list of all the start and end channels, preferably copied into Excel, but even pasted into a Word document would be helpful.

Tks!!!

Hi Dabil,

O-----H......

Yes, I'm a central Ohio Buckeye; was in Columbus up until about a year ago, now we're in Pataskala, about 20 miles east of Columbus.

Sorry I don't have any video's of our previous display.  I purposefully didn't advertise to keep traffic under control.  About two years ago, someone posted a short clip of our display on a local suburb's Mom's Group FB page and the traffic increased substantially, to the point I was concerned it was too much.

thanks for saying HI.

Does any have an Xlights sequence they’d be willing to share for House on Christmas Street by Judy Pancoast?

I’m also looking for a sequence to “How Many Kings?” by Downhere.  If you’re not familiar with the song, here’s a link to Downhere performing it live:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhYWMcjx8Yk
It is a very powerful, thought provoking song.  I think it would could be an awesome song sequenced.  I’d like to feature our nativity scene this sequence.

Thanks in advance for your help and assistance.

Tks!
Joe

Thanks to the many posters that have kindly made their sequences available, either free or by purchasing them, I’m grateful.  Although I’ve toyed with Xlights for two years, this is my first year giving it a real go.  For me, the learning curve has been slow; not because the program is hard, but there are so many options, so many different things to do, it takes a long time to catch on.  Plus like most of us, time is short, way too short.

After watching Sean’s and Keith’s videos about how to map sequences from one layout to mine, I’ve had really good success mapping effects.  I’ve also realized that your sequences are a whole lot better my made from scratch sequences.  The time savings is amazing.  Prior to understanding mapping, I was at the point where I was reluctantly ready to my previous sequences using standard AC lights.

Thanks again to all of you that have taken the time and effort to graciously share your sequences.

Thanks!!!
Joe

There isn't any current plan to video the event.  The event is held in a lodge within a large metro park, an amazing setting, surrounded by trees, stream, and an occasional wild animal passing by.  What it doesn't have is a strong Wi-Fi single, so streaming live is unlikely to work.

The presentations are always top-notch, but LUO is so much more that can't be shown on a video.  There's a lounge like area with fireplace where a lot of small group and one-on-one discussions occur, hands-on demos are taught, and outside where all sorts of projects have been shared in the past.  For example, a flying santa sleigh & reindeer blowmold was set-up, fire canisters shown, and the first public showing of the famous "Jump Pole" was demonstrated.  Of course there's the fellowship of interacting with a tremendous group of people.  LUO has so much more to offer that a video could offer.

Columbus is an easy destination to reach by plane or by car.  The airport is very easy to get in and out of, and fares are reasonable.  There's plenty to do if you bring the family; kids will love the highly regarded zoo and COSI (Center of Science & Industry).  Shopping options galore from new outlet mall to numerous boutiques in the short north area.  And if you're a college football fan, no trip to Columbus is complete without a trip to the Horseshoe. And no, I don't work for the Chamber of Commerce :-)  Columbus is a pretty cool place.

I encourage you to attend and get the most out of what LUO offers.  I'm confident your expectations will be exceeded.

I would like to confirm for the $40 web streaming and DVDs.

xLights Convert / Re: aurora dls.files
« on: October 30, 2015, 06:11:27 AM »
Unfortunately no.  Sean looked into it about a year ago.  Aurora files can be converted to LSP, then LSP files converted into XLights.  I'm planning to try that early next year; didn't get to it this year.  I wonder how the sequence will look after it goes through two conversions?

Hello  Joe,

If you are a newbie, can ii suggest that you park this. IMHO it won't help you this stage .

Instead, watch a video or something of his. Then assuming you have set your setup , pick one of the models say mega tree and try out one of the effects eg bars to get something similar. Or simply use something u like.

Another option is to use the random effect generator. Select a range of cells say for a minute , right click and that will Open an option to generate random effects. Do so and then watch and pick what you like and see what effect that is etc.

Hi Gerry,

I have been watching Sean's video's and I have a mega tree model set-up and a few AC channel snowflakes.  Playing with the different effects to see which ones I like.  It's amazing the modifications you can make with a single effect.
Thanks for the heads up on the random effects; I thought those went away in version 4.  I'll give them a try.

I remember 5-6 years ago learning my current software, Aurora, by looking at and modifying shared sequences; seeing other sequences made it easy for me.  Thought I'd approach XLights the same way.

Tks!!!!
