Do You Need Help? Post it here / xlights wont open upon restart on PC
« on: March 29, 2021, 08:55:18 AM »
Just checking to see if anyone has experienced this.  This past weekend I noticed xlights would not open. Prior to this experience I was running version 2021.7, thinking something became corrupted I installed version 2021.09 and experienced the same issue.  To resolve it I had to system restore to a few days bee this weekend. That corrected the problem.  I then excluded both the xlights program folder and the xlights show folders from any virus scan.  Once again after a restart or the PC the same issue occured.  While start xlights it just sits on the splash screen with the spinning wheel of death.  Task manager shows not responding status.  At this point I am puzzled as to how to correct this.  Looking for any suggestions that I may have not tried.  Thanks in advance.

Keith,
On a side note I ran the playlist on my laptop with and older version of xschedule (2020.12 32 bit) modifying paths and the bat files executed correctly.  The version on my show computer is 2020.33 64 bit.  Hope this helps.

yes in fact I ran a playlist that worked fine last year and it reacted the same way.  I did find a playlist log from last year to compare and where the command did launch there is a discrepancy in log files here is a snip from the log from last year

hope this comparison helps

Last year I was able to run bat files in xSchedule using the Run Process command.  I am unable to get it to trigger the files (everything still in place from last year) Did something change and is there a new process to do so?

here is a snip from the xSchedule log it looks like the data string may be messed up where the command launches (path should be F:\nutcracker-xlights\RDS\2020 bat files\party in the usa.bat)

During setup I have decided a different location for a prop.  If I move that prop the layout tab will it track on all sequences or must I re-render all sequences?  Just want to make sure before I mess up 60+ sequences.

Not sure if this will help but last year I ran 3 switches with no problems.  Set up was CPU to 48 port switch(house switch)  From there to a 5port switch outside, to a second 5port switch at a further location in the yard.  This year will be the third year doing the same thing.

I use adobe audition, there is a normalize feature that will correct all audio files to the level you need.  I am sure it is very similar to MP3Gain

Clyde at leechburg lights has a ton of videos, that was pretty much my bible making the transfer to LOR made the transition very easy.  I believe he has one a video on excel/LOR and xlights mapping somewhere.  Here is the link to his video, I think it is what you are looking for and may help, His channel is loaded with some great info.

I have had mine for years, first as incandescent now as pixels.  They are simple tomato cages each tree is two cages offset by a quarter turn.  I cut and re-welded them to get a better cone shape then wrapped them in chicken wire for support of the lights.  I originally had them also wrapped with green garland but have since removed the garland and painted them black.  They work pretty well and are fairly durable.
