Do You Need Help? Post it here / Re: Grouping Question
« on: April 10, 2016, 09:43:57 PM »
Sorry, I'm not able to visualize the "3 inner stars plus 5 tips" that you are trying to do. Perhaps if you took a picture or drew it out and posted it here that would help. Also, you can create a custom model that allows you to create any shape or design you want. However, I don't believe the custom model will let you create individual strands. What you could do though is create the custom model exactly how you want it to look and then create individual strands with the same channel numbers and deselect "In My Display" for those individual strands. By doing this you won't have to worry about placing those individual strands inside of your layout. They'll just be hanging out in the background. When you then go into the sequencing they will be available for you to use individually. Since you set them up with the same channel numbers they'll light up the corresponding parts of your star. You may not even need to do all of that though. Post a pic or a drawing if you can of what your star looks like and then we'll have a better idea of what can be done.

Traneman,

Please see my post linked below on creating a 3-tiered star. I think that will solve your problem as you will only have 1 model to deal with. You can still access the individual tiers when you apply your effects.

Nutcracker Models / Re: How to move 3 models together
« on: April 10, 2016, 01:33:45 PM »
Not sure if you know about this but the star model will actually let you create a star with concentric layers. This way you wouldn't have to have 3 separate models for your star. You can even still access the individual stars within it when applying effects. The key is to set the Layer Sizes. Take a look at the pics I have attached below. The are for my star that has 3 layers to it. The total star has 90 lights. The outside star has 40 nodes. The middle star has 30 nodes and the inner star has 20 nodes. I'm not sure which version you're using so I attached images from the old model settings as well as the new model settings. Use whichever one matches your version.

Paul,

Welcome to the world of xLights. There is a weekly online user meeting on Wednesday nights at 6:00 PM Central. The meeting usually goes for a few hours and the topics can vary. There usually isn't a set agenda. Just drop in, ask questions, soak up knowledge, etc. There is screen sharing capability so perhaps someone can "show" you how to do what you want to do at the meeting.

Do You Need Help? Post it here / Re: Odd layout in Circle Model
« on: March 22, 2016, 09:22:09 PM »
I think it will be OK. I was attempting to use a single strand effect and wanting it light up each individual column in order like the hand of clock moving around the face. When I applied this to the model as a whole it didn't come out right. However, if I put that effect on the strands instead it works perfectly. Of course, that only works because each circle has the same number of nodes. But, since that is what I have it works for me.

Thanks Gil and Jon.

I played around with it some more in the sequencer and it definitely doesn't flow right. I plan on making a video in a bit to show what it is doing. Unfortunately the wreath model that I am working with from Boscoyo is laid out that way with 3 concentric circles of equal pixels. I may just have to use a custom model. I was wanting to use the circle model so that it would separate out the circles. That way I could sequence them separately if I wanted. I believe I can accomplish this with a custom model and the Names feature but I haven't played with it yet. If all else fails I can just make 3 individual circles and group them.

Yes that node map doesn't look right but can you actually find anything that's not working with the model?
As I have not received my lights or controllers I can't test this in the real world. However, when I added that model to the sequence and then opened it up down to the node level it seemed fine. My concern though is that it's going to treat the missing nodes as null pixels. So my 54 node wreath will actually need 62 nodes.

Do You Need Help? Post it here / Odd layout in Circle Model
« on: March 21, 2016, 07:42:38 PM »
Hi All,

I decided to use the Circle model for a Boscoyo 24" Wreath. I thought that it would be perfect because the Circle model lets you do concentric circles. The wreath has 3 circles of 18 nodes each for a total of 54 nodes. The display looks good, however, the node layout looks odd. I have attached my Circle model definition as well as the node layout. Notice how the bottom layer goes from 1 to 18. That looks good. However, the second layer starts on 20 rather than 19 and even skips 22, 25, 31. The third layer starts with 38 instead of 37 and then skips 40, 43, 49. Does this seem right? I'm sure others here have used the Circles model for Boscoyo wreaths. Have you noticed any issues?

If you move your mouse close to the coupling point it will turn into a hand with a pointing finger. At this point you can click and drag to decouple the two events.

Bugs (Please dont post here, soon to be deprecated) / Re: Timing shift
« on: March 05, 2016, 12:06:29 PM »
I can report that with the new audio libraries for 2016.10 that the timing shift issue seems to be gone. I'm not seeing it jump on me anymore. The waveform marker lines up with the song perfectly no matter where in the song I start playing from. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Bugs in xLights/Nutcracker / Re: Color Panel and Layer Blending Panel Bugs

I've got to hand it to the developers. Just a little over 2 hours after I submitted this issue and it's already been fixed for the next build. Way to go Daniel. Thanks for the quick turnaround.

Bugs in xLights/Nutcracker / Color Panel and Layer Blending Panel Bugs
« on: February 28, 2016, 03:52:18 PM »
I came across a couple of issues in version 2016.9.

First, in the Color Panel, the Sparkles/Brightness/Contrast values are not updating correctly when selecting between different effects. This seems to only happen when the second effect clicked has the default values for Sparkles/Brightness/Contrast. If the second effect has values other than the default then it updates as expected.

Second, in the Layer Blending Panel, the Blur value is not correctly updating its value. This seems to only happen when the second effect clicked has the default value for Blur. If the second effect has a value other than the default then it updates as expected. The slider correctly gets updated but the text box retains the previous effects value. This is also happening for the top slider/text box that is next to the drop down for the layer style.

I have opened up two issues for these in GitHub.

Please see the attached video for a demonstration.

Can't wait to play around with this on some of my effects. Awesome job!

It's not possible to leave remnants that won't go away when you render *UNLESS* you've got your Render Mode set to "Canvas Mode" so check your Settings.
So I hadn't even ran across the Render Mode settings until I saw this post. I just checked and mine is of course set to the default which is "Erase Mode." So, I then went and looked at the manual to get a description of the two modes. The manual explains it very well and is exactly how I have gotten rid of remnants when I have deleted effects. As Gil has mentioned, I would suggest you try and re-render your sequence and see if that fixes your issue.

Here is the part of the manual that deals with Render Mode:
If the Render Mode is set to Erase (which is the default value), then the fseq file is erased before every
render. If set to Canvas Mode, then the data in the fseq is not cleared before a render, rendering is
done over the old data.
Note: If set to Canvas mode, deleting an effect will still show when played until it is overridden with a
new effect. Imagine a 6 foot painting in which you paint over a 4 foot section. The 2 foot original section
is still visible. This is the how canvas mode works.
