Nutcracker Effects / How to make an alternating pixel effect?
« on: December 14, 2016, 04:53:59 PM »
Hello all.  Loving Xlight, newbie.  Quick question hope an easy one.  In FPP they have a test mode.  When in this test mode the pixels will light: pixel #1 red, 2 blue and 3rd green repeat.  So basically all the pixels will be lit and colors repeat every 3rd one.  After a few seconds they will shift ( #1 turns green, 2 red and 3 blue).  This effect is repeated indefinitely.

Like the look as matches my mega tree I have made of standard led lights (red, blue, green, yellow and violet).  From a distance only the red,  blue and green are noticeable. Is it possible to create something similar in Xlights?

Thank you for looking at my post.  Hope you are enjoying the Christmas season.

Actually technically the Pi is a controller as much as any other piece of hardware.

I have the new pi hat from falcon.  It's has fused outputs, powers the pi and programmable thru fpp.  Never used a controller (Newbe) assume this has be be very close.

You skipped his first question which was the most important because some controllers allow you easily adjust power output.  You need to tell us what controller is running the pixels.

I am not using a controller, running two outputs directly from the Rasp Pi.

What controller are  you using.
What pixels are you using?
Usually when pixels start changing color or flickering down a string it is as stated most likely the need for power injection?

Problems after 40 pixels seems like a very rapid voltage drop though.
Is your power supply set to 12volts, if 12v pixels, 5v if 5v pixels. Many power supplies come under adjusted for proper voltage output.

Using 5m ws2811 16 led/m strips.  Power supply is a 350w meanwell 12v.  Strips are 12v to.  I have 5 to 10' of 18 gauge cable between the arches to space them out.  Going to increase power injection and mess around with the dimming curves in Xlights (original thought that option was limited to light fluctuation on the effects....not overall light power/intestity.

Falcon Pi Player / Re: Raspberry Pi 3 GPIO & WS281X

you are limited to 800 to 1000 pixels per output.  Pi ver3 can support two outputs.  Will need a converter to boost output from 3.3 v to 5v.

Falcon Pi Player / Colors Xlights on FFP
« on: November 21, 2016, 09:37:45 PM »
Newbie here, just got FFP to work with Xlight sequence few questions/points.

1) My colors were all off (red when supposed to be blue, etc.).  I tried changing in FFP (changing to BRG, was set to default RGB) and while they displayed correctly in FFP test mode (didn't matter how I set up the pixels...RGB, BGR etc. colors were always correct), my sequence was still off (wrong colors displayed). Changed colors properties (BRG) in Xlights and worked.  Thinking should have been able to correct in FFP.  Did I missing something in FFP

2) Used an Ardueno to test my ws2811 16pix/meter strips (5M).  No problem running two strips without power injection, good color including white.  When I ran off my FFP this evening, after 40 pixels no more whites...pink.  Going to add more power injection.  Any thoughts on why with an Aurduno got better performance than running off my PI...voltage drop only.  Aurduno no comparison to Xlights and FFP.

Just getting into the hobby, much funner when things are working.

Will look into all the suggestions.  Just powered my arches, after 40 pixels my whites are pink.  Not so good.  Hoping reducing power will help with voltage drop.

Nutcracker Effects / How to adjust light intensity for displays

Total newbie here.  Have put together a few Xlight sequences.  Planning on running on FFP with Rasp Pi ver 3.0.  Read numerous posts that LED's running at 50% vs 100% are very difficult for the human eye to distinguishes the difference.  See in Xlights under the test tab can adjust each colors light level.

My question is how (or if) I can adjust the light level for all my effects?  Still very green, hopefully this was just a button or selection I missed.  Thank you in advance for any help on this issue.

Xlights Setup / Re: How to set Xlights to work off PI outputs???

That will make things simpler.  Will just break things out for the two outputs.

Thank you.

Xlights Setup / How to set Xlights to work off PI outputs???
« on: November 17, 2016, 04:03:07 PM »
Hello.  Have a question.  Running FPP on my Pi ver 3. Wanting to run Xlights on Pi and connect ws2811 pixels to pi directly.

How should I set up the Xights "Setup page" to map my channels/universes to these outputs?  Any help greatly appreciated.

Nutcracker Models / Re: How to get a spinner to spin????

In the models: Set # of strings to the number of arms, and set arms/string to 1.

That was the fix.  Thank you.

What effect(s) do you use to get a spinner to spin?  Also start in the center with one color and radiate out other colors.

Know these are probably easy ones, just having a little finding them.

Thanks

Nutcracker Effects / Nebie, how to model meteor lights
« on: November 13, 2016, 02:03:50 PM »
Hello. Trying to figure out best way to model my DIY meteor lights.  Lights will be 13 segments of various sizes.  pixel count will be 32, 10, 5, 10, 15, 10, 5, 10, 15,10, 5, 10, 32 per segment.  Should 160 pixels. Pixels are from a 2 5 M, ws2811 strips 16 pix/meter.

Going to want to do classic meteor effect, pixels scrolling down the segments.  Also want to have segments lit and shift colors down the segments and across to each other.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Nutcracker Models / Modeling a snowflake
« on: November 13, 2016, 11:29:28 AM »
Question on modeling a snowflake.  My display is basically a 6 leg spinner with little branches that jet out at the end to make the snow flake.  Basically this with only two set of branches per leg

http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0249/9090/products/Festive_Snowflake_1024x1024.jpg?v=1375296976

Would like my model to allow the branches to be one color and the spinner another.  Also would be nice if could plus the spinner leg and braches separately.  Snowflake is constructed with ws2811 pixels (3 led's per pixel), each leg is 4 pixels and branch is 1 (cut up a ws2811 16led/meter strip.....wont do this again, will use standard bullet pixels next time).

Any help greatly approached.
