Hey All,
I finally started getting into the face effect for my mega tree and am really enjoying how it works.  I do have one question hopefully someone can help me with.  What I would like is just for the tree to be green (or whatever color) and have the eyes and mouth display and move without showing a bulb or santa or other type of face.  Basically to look like the tree is doing the singing or talking.  Is there an easy way I could set this up?  So far I've used the bulb and elf faces but I cant figure out how to just have the eyes and mouth without the rest of the image.  Thanks for any help.

General hardware / pixels randomly came on during the night

UPDATE:  I think I may have found my issue.  I went out to make sure they worked and neither arch would do anything.  After looking at the connections, one was wet inside.  I forgot to put the rubber gasket on that one and it seems moisture got in and actually started to rust the V+ prong.  After cleaning and drying it out, they are working normally again. luckily.

I finally got my display going last night and all went well.  Show ended and all was off.  This morning I looked out and 2 of my 4 leaping yard arches were on steady with a muted pastel rainbow color.  I checked the security camera and it looked like about 1:30am they came on.  1 came fully on and the other was just at both ends and they had a flicker to them.  slowly, the other one "filled up" and then they were how I found them this am.  I went out and unplugged the power/receiver box and plugged it back in and everything went back to normal.  They are INK 1003 strips and I run a falcon f16v3 with differential cards.  These arches have a power/receiver box and arch 1+2 share data cable and separate injection and same thing with 3+4 on a different data output.  Arch 3+4 are the ones that came on.  I also run data from this box to a "tune to" pixel sign which has a separate box for power injection but I also connect the grounds between the two power supplies. I've attached a time lapse video of the problem. Any idea what could have caused this?  Thanks for any help.

Falcon Hardware / null pixels

I'm having to add a null pixel this year for a longer run of cable from the controller to the first pixel.  I'm using an F16v3 with 2 expansions.  Will I have to "add" a pixel to the run of 84 that the null one is going to be put in before in xlights or is there a way in the F16 to define that a null pixel will be put in that line?

do you happen to know with the f16v3, do I have to add a pixel to that section in the sequencing so it would be 85 instead of 84 or is there a way to have the f16 know there is a null pixel in that line?  I'm curious of the effect it will have on the behavior of chase type effects as well since it's right after another longer run of pixels.  Rather than just power inject there, I had to split it due to the max pixels for each expansion card.  Will it seem like it's skipping a pixel at all?  Thanks again for any help.

Thanks for the reply! My issue is the controller I have to use for it now is 25? away and I maxed out the other cards used in other spots. I do have null pixels but have never used them. I also have 5? lengths and 20? lengths of cable. Could I just run the 20? and then a null pixel and then a 5?? Thanks again for your help. Or I could also inject power from the end of the run of pixels if that would help out at all

Hi All,

I've moved this past year and have finally got my layout back up with all the changes that needed to be done.  One question I have though is has anyone run a 25' 3 core data/power line from a Falcon F16v3 with acceptable results?  Part of my roof line has changed and where I used to be able to keep it to 18', I now have to run a 25 ft. cable to reach that section of pixels on the roof.  It's a fairly small section of 84 pixels but I'm just curious if I'm going to have issues running that length of a 3 core cable to them.  Thanks so much for any input.

Xlights Setup / controller connection/port numbers?

Hey All,
When the major update came out, I was going to try to update my network to the controller connection and port numbers, etc.  I just ended up making myself more confused and decided to leave it with absolute numbering and do not plan on uploaded anything to the controllers.  I have 1 F16v3 with 2 expansion cards and 2 LOR boxes running off the f16 serial.  XL seemed to import all my "old" universes correctly and I thought everything was great.  But when I look at the visualizer, I get a ton of err messages like this (This is just part of the list).  If I don't plan to upload anything, will I still be ok creating sequences and uploading them to FPP or is there something I need to change with my setup after seeing these errors? All the errors listed here reference LED models run off of the 2 LOR boxes.  Thanks for any help.


ERR: Model Purple Shrubs on pixel port 3 has protocol  but port protocol has been set to ws2811. Hi Everyone,

I think I've got the new controller setup down but just want to verify one thing.  I have 3 LOR boxes left in my layout (numbered 1, 2, and 5) but they have been converted to DMX since I began using xlights.  I use DMX port 3 on a falcon f16v3 to run the data to all three of them.  Right now, with the new layout page, I have them setup as LOR protocol, port 3, and then the respective DMX channel for each model.  Would this be correct or should I actually be setting it as DMX protocol with the rest remaining the same?  Thanks for any help.

ugh.  LOL, just when I was set to proceed forth with Gilrocks blessing, you make a very good point, poporacer.  Ok, I'll get with it and make the change.  Just one more question (before I come up with 25 more)... For my LOR boxes on DMX port 3 of the f16v3 (bottom-most port of the 3), dumb question, but I would define the port for all my LOR boxes as port 3 with LOR protocol as the setting?  I just want to make sure I'm not going to cause an issue with the f16 pixel output to port 3 by trying to define the LOR serial output port as port 3 as well.

Also, the upload to controller part.....With everything squared away in the controller settings now is this step still required or should I just update the layout settings and no do the upload to controller?  Thanks again so much for all the help.

thank you for the help Poporacer.  So I do have my tree defined in layout as you said with 6 strings, 360 nodes/string and 6 strands/string.  Right now the f16 is setup to use ports 25-30 to output to those blocks of 6 from differential receiver cards. I'm just having a hard time figuring out how to select each port for the blocks of 6.  It seems I can only select a port and protocol for the overall model itself. Any ideas?  Thank you again.

Hey Guys,
Sorry for asking so many questions regarding this new controller/layout setup but I have one big one now.  I saw in one of the videos that you do not have to do this.  So if in my new controller tab, my controller is listed with all the universes, I used absolute numbering in the layout tab and everything worked great last year, do I need to update all the models in the layout tab with a port, protocol and channel number or can I just leave the port/protocol area blank and just keep the absolute numbering I had and not upload the input to my f16?  I would find it much easier to just keep on the way I had it with absolute numbering and not uploading anything to the controller that is working fine right now.  Any thoughts?
