The Water Cooler / Entire display for sale in VA due to health
« on: August 22, 2021, 07:38:19 PM »
Sadly I'm looking to sell my entire display. Had my left arm amputated this past February and can no longer setup/maintain/takedown props. I have nobody to help with it.
Roughly 10,000-13,000 pixels, all 2811 bullets.
20' tree with crank up pole etc
10' tree
2  4x8 foot matrices
5 24" ? snowflakes
Large star
7 arches
rolls of 6 inch wide matrix material

7 Sandevice controllers
10-12 power supplies
connectors, wire, network switch,
Extra HDPE tubing.

Basically LOTS of stuff.
All stored in its own shed, excellent shape.
Would have to be picked up. I'm in Northern VA, Manassas area.
1 hour southeast of Charlston WV, 2 hour north of Richmond, 40 minutes west of DC.

I can try to get pics but they'll be tough. Hard to move stuff around with one arm.

Looking to get $1500 for all. No stupid offers please.
The decision to do this wasn't easy, especially after having to sell Harley and all my stick shift cars among other things.

General Software / Re: Non-Facebook singing face files?
« on: January 25, 2019, 12:41:11 PM »
Thanks for all the help!!! These are the responses I needed as everything else seemed to point to one place.
Additionally, in the tutorials I noted the download option however wasn't aware the library was that extensive.

Again, thanks to all.

General Software / Non-Facebook singing face files?
« on: January 24, 2019, 05:00:41 PM »
I have followed the tutorials for building/sequencing singing faces and have that part handled. What I need are face files. For instance, one of the xlights around the world videos set to "Greatest Showman" has a few interesting faces.
When I have searched xlights.org and internet in general, I find responses sending users to Facebook group. I do NOT use Facebook. Never will. Period.
So are there other sources? Not CFOL. I have also looked at animated mouth shapes etc. but would have zero idea how to lay those on top of an image.
Really at a hard spot here because most everything leads to "Facebook group". Ain't gonna happen.

Need some guidance guys.

Thanks in advance.

Xlights Setup / Re: Use of 'controller connection' in setup or no?
« on: December 24, 2018, 09:26:02 AM »
Thanks to you both. Since everything was running without a hitch a didn't want to 'fix' it by filling it out. Kinda assumed it had a special purpose outside my needs.

Xlights Setup / Use of 'controller connection' in setup or no?
« on: December 20, 2018, 02:41:26 PM »
Current show is running flawlessly after a couple hiccups with hardware but a question has been in the back of my mind.
Watching many of the tutorials to expand my knowledge, I have noticed that most xLIGHTS users seem to have the Layout tab field 'controller connection' filled out.
I do not. Never have.
So as part of the process, does using this field or not using it add or detract from performance? Usefullness? Or does it simply help track down problems?
I realize that if Im running ok it must not be critical but I'm sure I'm missing something.
Thanks.

Do You Need Help? Post it here / Resizing, looping, playing GIFs
« on: December 14, 2018, 04:37:05 AM »
Been searching here and xlights.org and other places but 'playing gif', or 'creating gif' etc. don't really produce good results.
I've been looking for a tutorial on how to find suitable video, cut for length, resize and import/play on matrix.
I had found a video about a gif resizer program a while ago but alas, can't find it now.
I became more intrigued by the number of video gifs in the Trista lights show and wanted to do a similar effect.
Can someone point me to a tutorial or series of tutorials on each of those steps?

They would play on a 24x48 matrix so would need to resize and adjust definition to fit that.

Thanks a million guys.

Bugs in xLights/Nutcracker / Re: OS Mojave conflicts/bugs/issues???
« on: November 02, 2018, 09:45:02 AM »
Wow Daniel, you're a busy guy!! And far more technically adept than I could dream. While I've been a Mac user since 1984 and know my way around the OS, I still get lost when guys talk technical coding fixes. Glad folks like you exist.

Your response is what I was hoping for, a version update coming out to address Mojave. My plan is to run this years show, then start of next year download upgrade to OS and new Xlights. Thanks again so very much.

Bugs in xLights/Nutcracker / OS Mojave conflicts/bugs/issues???
« on: November 02, 2018, 05:47:28 AM »
Hopefully one of the developers will weigh in as well as Mac users.
OS Mojave is out and while I normally upgrade without thought, I'm a bit nervous about affecting this years show which is finished and ready to run.
As I run my show from my Mac I truly fear finding the conflicts the hard way and not being able to fix it before show launches in a couple of weeks.
Any known issues with this upgrade or problems other users have had so far?

Thanks for any input.

Nutcracker Models / Re: Singing faces downloads/ faces dimensions?
« on: October 15, 2018, 04:20:38 PM »
Thanks so much to you both. I ASSUMED it wasn't pixel count because that would be insane. My largest matrix will be 96x96 pixels and didn't want a face that looked too compressed.

Nutcracker Models / Singing faces downloads/ faces dimensions?
« on: October 15, 2018, 02:24:51 PM »
After watching the VERY helpful video about downloading already built faces models for matrices, I had a quick question.
Faces have dimensions given but what is the unit of measure? I'm sure this is a newbie question but I've never needed to know before.
Example, some are 100 by 200, a couple are 200+ by500.
MM? Pixel? Standard galactic time interval? :)

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that Keith.

Thanks again.

Is there a part of the forum I haven't found where its possible to find forum members near you? I see lots of meetups in NV, CO, and elsewhere but can't find anyone near me in VA. WOuld love to be able to occasionally check out others work in person. Perhaps this could be a new forum section?

Thanks

Joe
