Use of 'controller connection' in setup or no?
« on: December 20, 2018, 02:41:26 PM »
Current show is running flawlessly after a couple hiccups with hardware but a question has been in the back of my mind.
Watching many of the tutorials to expand my knowledge, I have noticed that most xLIGHTS users seem to have the Layout tab field 'controller connection' filled out.
I do not. Never have.
So as part of the process, does using this field or not using it add or detract from performance? Usefullness? Or does it simply help track down problems?
I realize that if Im running ok it must not be critical but I'm sure I'm missing something.
Thanks.

Joe

I've never used it, never had a problem ... been using xlights since it was just a show player

Filling that out is only needed if you are going to upload the setup information from xlights to your controllers.  If you are setting things up manually, you don't need to fill that out.  There would be no performance issues with that either way.

Thanks to you both. Since everything was running without a hitch a didn't want to 'fix' it by filling it out. Kinda assumed it had a special purpose outside my needs.

Yeah .. if its working fine, dont mess with it (now). It does serve a purpose to validate your config with controllers and overlap and such. Ie you have a universe or set of props accidently going to multiple ports.
