Jinx! vs Glediator
« on: February 11, 2015, 11:21:04 PM »
maybe Jinx! is a better option than Glediator in that it supports E1.31 output as well as the ability to output different file formats.

Nutcracker is going way beyond what either of those programs basically do. Now each one does have some effects that would be cool to be incorporated into Nutcracker and I believe over the next few months that a lot of them will.

it is our belief that you try them all, pick what works best for you. We will continue to try and make xLights 4 the next step in ease and functionality. Vixen+, Vixen3, LOR, LSP, HLS are all also trying to make your sequencing better too. All are under active development.

Whoa Wait.. stop!!!

The OP staid Jinx! may be better than Glediator.  Both are just applications that create effects and output to a grid.
I have to agree that Jinx does have a smoother feel than Glediator and looks very very similar to Glediator.

The output file on Glediator is .gled and that is supported by XL/NC.  The output file type by jinx is .out
and that file type is NOT currently a native supported file type / effect option in XL/NC.

I did a test with Jinx and saved and captured an effect and saved it to a .gled file and it did not play in NC. (I was hoping that the file output types were close/same and we could use Jinx today with NC)

There are few different effects in Jinx that are not in NC/Glediator that would be a welcome addition to the effects arsenal.

I would highly suggest/reqeust that .out be added as a supported input file just as .gled is supported.

hmmm, with NC 4 having more than 2 effects layers and more effect type in the future, it may well be that Glediator and Jinx! will not be needed. I did like the JinxScript though and being able to create you own effect type. unfortunately creating effects is too much math for my pee brain.

I will add it to the todo list

In the mean time just rename the out extension as gled and it works fine
so
test.out (renamed to) test.gled. This opens and plays correctly in current xlights

Thanks Sean.

What output type did you configure in Jinx?  I can only get garbage with E1.31 and nothing with Glediator as the output type when saved to a file.

see attachments.

one weird thing is when i click to start capture, nothing appears on any screen i can see. i waited about 10 seconds and went back and said stop capture.
renamed test.out to test.gled

made sure matrix matched sized defined in jinx.

plasma effect i captured played back correctly in xlights

Well what I really meant by my joke is that I thought eventually we would have the capability of Glediator built into the program so you wouldn't need an external program.

I let Sean be the nice guy saying how all the sequencers are great.  If they were I would still be using them because I've bought and used them all.  I want to my make signature graphic be the xLights yellow bulb with it's mouth open like Pacman devouring all the other sequencer icons...lol.

One of the features of Jinx is JinxScipt  which makes it easy to create user effects. Could this type of feature be implemented in Nutcracker?

see attachment for example
