Help with step down effect
« on: February 06, 2016, 12:54:55 PM »
I need some assistance from you effect masters out there. What I'm trying to accomplish is a step down effect where as the beat goes down less and less of the house is turned on. I have come close to this by using a morph effect on the second layer and decreasing the morph Y values as the beat goes down. However, as you can see in the video here https://vimeo.com/154432454, it is fading out at the end of each morph effect. What I would like is for everything that hasn't been turned off yet to stay lit until it is its turn. So it would start with the whole house being lit and then a beat later 80% and then 60%, etc., etc. The way I have it now does this but it all turns off in between switching from 80% to 60% and so on. Perhaps the morph effect is the wrong thing to use. I have attached a screenshot of my that part of my sequence. "All" is a model group containing all of my models. It has two layers. The first layer is a butterfly effect and the second layer has multiple morph effects in time with the beat. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,
Rick

Try colorwash, deselect entire model and then select the area you want.

The best option is probably going to be a picture effect using vector movement. The hardest part will be making the picture, which is still relatively easy.

James, you rock. Color wash worked perfectly. That's exactly what I wanted.

For future reference to anyone looking for the same thing. I changed the second layer from a morph effect to a color wash effect, unchecked "Entire Model" and the set the Y coordinate accordingly to the level I wanted it. If you wanted to go horizontal then change the X coordinate instead of the Y. Also, I had to change the layer from "2 is Unmask" to "2 is Mask."

The developers rock.

Glad you got what you were looking for.
