Adding two different effects on a model
« on: April 06, 2015, 01:04:06 PM »
This is pertaining to version 4.  I have been following the video, and at the same time building a sequence.  It is quite different than using V3.6.  I want to add a second effect to a model. In 3.6 I could manipulate how effect 1 & 2 would work with each other on a model. In V4 I'm not having any luck adding a second effect to a model.
I think Sean was trying to show how in the Beta version video, but I'm not getting it.

Example; using spirals going in the opposite direction on the mega tree in the upward direction.

Did you right click on the row header and add a 2nd layer?  Then you just need to change the blend mode for the effect on the top layer just like you had it set in version 3.6.

In 4.0 there is still the options to have 2 layers of effects affect control each other just as before.

If you have imported a sequence that has an element with two layers of effects you will notice that there are two horizontal layer lines associated with that element. Layer 1 is the top or first layer track and then Layer 2 is the second or bottom layer. Just FYI now you can have as many layers as you wish.

When you click on an effect and look in the left hand column you will see a window labeled Layer/Timing. In that window, which can be undocked and enlarged  using your mouse , is all the original selections for blending of the two layers under the button labeled 'Effect 1'. There is also the new 'morph' effect option there as well.

Also you can close these windows and re-enable them from the 'View' > 'Window' dropdown box to bring a particular window back.

Hope that helps.

Yes I did the first go around, but could not get the results. I wanted One red spiral on top layer and one green spiral on bottom layer.  Both twisting toward the top of tree, in opposite directions.

I finally did it. However it takes a lot longer to do than 3.6 because the sliders do not automatically update when they are moved.  make a slider adjustment then click up date, over and over until desired results.

Sean has mentioned that sometimes auto updating does not occur, I think it may be on their list of bugs to fix I have not looked lately. Been too busy just keeping up with the releases, whewwwwww........

It is supposed to update as the sliders are moved. It used to, I think we got a regression. We will fix it in a release soon. This is what beta testing is for.

Mine are changing without hitting update.  I just did the green and red spirals on two layers and set the top layer blend mode to Average.
