Importing last years xseq files converted from LSP
« on: April 16, 2015, 06:23:41 AM »
Last year I converted all of my LSP to .xseq  and add a many nutcracker effects  to make the show really pop!

So I've got a mix of converted .xseq (or .fseq), most with matching .xml files that I want to import into xlights 4.0. Well this year, I added several new features and LSP controllers; also changed channel numbers of some features and added 13 new universes.....All this done in LSP, as suggested by the good folks in the forums (Thank You).  I converted these .mseq files to .xseq files.  Now onto Xlights to import the .xseq and .XML files.

I've tried several methods and the one that works the best is to use the sequence tab, click new file, go to Media (open media file, etc.), click Data Layers, click import, select the new .xseq file and then go to Timings, select a Audacity txt file for that song, Close and Render All, followed by SAVE.

The Sequence plays, but no Timing marks.  Delete Timing Track and re-import the TXT file, timing marks appear  and All is good.

Or maybe not: the .xseq file is missing the nutcracker effects from last year (as expected).  I've tried several ways of adding the effects using 4.0 and the .XML file; no luck.

Question: Am I using the Data Layers tab correctly?  How do I get the .XML file effects into the 'Converted' sequence ?

The data layer concept really means that we embed the CONVERT tab into your sequence. We are going to convert your incoming file into an *.iseq file. So
Vix into iseq
Lms into iseq
Seq into iseq
Xseq into iseq
Fseq into iseq
Hlsdata into iseq

This conversion is done in two places. 1) When u add a layer, conversion is done then
2) when u press RENDER ALL button (GREEN settings button)

Keeping the convert info is new in xl4. The idea
- if you modify anything in hls, vixen, lor, lsp then click render all
- if you just are changing nutcracker effects, just press save

A clarification of how I have the Data Layers currently working.

I do not redo the Convert process when you hit Render All.  The purpose of Render All is to render all the effects and data layers to the sequence object without saving to disk.  I use the already imported ISEQ file data.  If you change the source file you need to go to the Data Layer tab click on that layer and hit Re-Import.  The Import process is rather lengthy so we want the user to be in control of when that happens.

Thanks,

Could you help me with how to import the .XML file into the already converted iseq import.  It seems that I can't do both...can I edit the .XML file or the xseq to add the nutcracker effects from the .XML

Figure it out...an earlier beta version of 4.0 screwed up the test/demonstration .xml I was working with....I was warned, but had not  checked that the file was corrupted.  Back on track!  Thanks for the explanation of the DATA LAYER feature.
