Effect Timing
« on: April 28, 2015, 11:06:01 PM »
This is crazy,  I set the same number for speed on all arches, but while looking at the preview they are not all moving at the same speed. Arch 1 seems to be normal arch 2 is stopped, arch 3 is hauling Butt, arch 4 is slower than number 1.   Cannot get them all moving at the same speed.  I have all arches set on 10.  I change the number from 10 to 8 on one arch, then pick on another arch, the speed on that arch shows 8 like the other arch but it is moving at which looks like a 10 speed. can't seem get them set at the same speed.

The easiest way to help you is if we can get your xlights_rgbeffects.xml, xlights_networks.xml, and the xml for your sequence.

You didn't say which effect you were using.  Some effects don't even use those speed settings.  I've never liked the way it works and my effects are designed to draw based on the percentage you are across the effect in the timeline.  Also I'd need to check but I'm not sure arches are treated as straight lines.  I think they might be mapped onto an X/Y array in which case they don't always react to an effect the way you would expect.  Sometimes you can make an effect look better by drawing a straight line model to overlay the same channels and use that to drop effects on and only use the arch model for preview purposes.

You can also use a single arch model for all arches or use grouping to apply effects.

I don't have a handle on how grouping works yet.
I was using Spiral effects in the arches.  If the speed setting is showing in the effects selection, I figured that it should work at the time I was making them. But I couldn't.

I think I got it to work after I selected save the sequence. Not sure of that because I saved and closed the program and today reopened it to that sequence, and the effects in the archs were or seemed to me to be
moving at the same speed.  Whether this is true or not when actually set up the field I won't know for sure until then.

Another thing I noticed is that in version 4.0.26 there are 34 effects when the effects icons are displayed in the left hand column, But there are only 32 and a piece of a icon showing in the bar above. This is on my Lap Top.  I don't know if it has anything to do with screen resolution settings or not. I was looking for the Wave effect and realized it wasn't showing in the Bar. I usually close the effects window on the left column to give me more room for the others. Maybe it's just my screen settings. guess I'll tinker with that to see.

Also, when I have two layers for the mega tree. One layer is color wash and say the other is text. I want to dim the color wash to make the text more pronounced.  When I lower the Brightness setting of the color wash, it dims the text also. I thought they should be separate.

I attached files of the sequence I was talking about and clip of screen showing Icons.

When we add more effects that toolbar doesn't resize unless you pull it away and drop it back in place.

You just needed to move the toolbar and it corrects the size.  You could slide it back into place and it would be fine now.

There is also a "Reset Toolbars" option on the Settings menu that will reset the information back to defaults the next time you start xLights.

Ok thanks,

It's a learning new software thing for me.  :)

In my setup with the 4 arches,  if I pick group arches, does that mean all the arches will have the same effect through out the whole sequence?
