reposition Superstar imports on megatree
« on: April 30, 2015, 09:46:48 PM »
If you import a 12 CCR superstar sequence is it possible to reposition it on my 64 strand megatree so that it appears in the front of the tree?

The SuperStar import is still being improved but assuming you can get it to import ok here's how I think you can do what you want.  Import it into a blank sequence and save it.  Then in the sequence where you really want the data you import the fseq file you saved as a data layer and use a channel offset to move it around on the tree.  The Data Layers tab is under the Settings -> Sequence Settings dialog.  Click Import then change file type to fseq and select the file you saved.  Then figure out the channel offset you need to move it over a few strands.

Are you referring to rotating the starting point?  If so, there is no easy button, you will have to "manually" start at the correct string.  For me, I have a 24 string (360 degree) tree, my starting channel is string 6, so this makes my start string on the left (9 o'clock position)

Actually it should be easy to reposition on the tree after you have a file containing the imported data.  If you watch this video I created when I was first designing the data layer capability I'm pretty sure somewhere in this video you will see me move the data to the left side of the tree and then I move it to the right side of the tree as well as moving the data over to a completely different tree all using the channel offset feature.  Every string is a certain number of channels like my 12x50 is 150 channels per string so if I offset 450 then I just move my sequence 3 strings to the right on my tree.

Got it James, so I could just create a new model for the megatree that has a different start channel and when I want to put a Superstar sequence on it I use it instead of my normal megatree. I like the idea of getting 12 strand  superstar sequences and only using the 12 strands on the front of my tree.

Gil, thanks for the suggestions of the channel offsets as these will work as well.

Neil

I have 24 strands on my tree and used some 12 strand sequences last year.  I cut and pasted the first 12 strands of effects in LOR to the strands 13-24. (of course after I added another 12 CCRs to the LOR config and removed the macro channels)

Most 12 strand sequences looked great doubled up on the 24 strand tree. Try it and with the offset capability in LOR you can still center it up and have some cool sequences/effects.

Cheers,

I kinda did something similar this past year.  I have a 12x50 tree on the right and I played my data in the middle of my 32x42 tree on the left.
