New guy here with a few questions.
« on: May 17, 2015, 09:10:23 PM »
Hey guys. I just found this forum. I've been a member over on doityouselfchristmas for a while. I have a few questions about setting up my network. This is the first year I am using rgb and pixels. I have a pixel tree and star that I am sequencing in nutcracker. I have 96 channels of LOR and 54 channels of rgb (2-27ch holidaycoro.com controllers) that I am sequencing in LOR S3 advanced. I am having an issue setting up my rgb controllers in xlights. I have all of my LOR models made in xlights and they all seem to be working great, but I can't figure out the rgb. Should I just forget about sequencing the rgb in LOR and sequence them in nutcracker? I have the LOR channels setup as a usb network using the LOR dongle. I have the rgb controllers setup as a usb network through an enttec pro dongle. Thanks.

mberta2--My OPINION here.    Also, please don't take this as an LOR slam....   I started out using LOR 2 years ago to sequence my AC lights then I decided late in the year to incorporate RGBs into my display.  I found the LOR RGB setup to be overly painful for non-LOR products (non-LOR products, e.g. RGB strips, are much less expensive than LOR products...).  I then attended a "mini" in Mississippi where a guy taught a nice basic about xlights course.  So, I figured I would give xlights a try...  Found xlights VERY easy to use.   My OPINION is that it is better to sequence RGBs (and run your shows) in xlights compared to LOR.  Others can weigh-in with more technical stuff, I am sure....  I hope this helps.

For you setup in xLights issues its usually best to post a screenshot.  I don't use USB dongles so I don't always know whats wrong but others may see the screenshot and be able to tell you what to do.

Hey danj I think ur right. I started messing with sequencing my rgb in xlights and it's so much easier. I will still sequence my LOR ac channels in LOR, but from here on out my rgb will be sequenced in xlights. As for the network issue I was having, I think I have it figured out. I made all of my models for my LOR channels and rgb channels and ran a couple of sequences to test it. Everything looks perfect. I had my universes and start channels wrong for my models. I hooked up one of the rgb controllers and it's working perfect. I haven't tried hooking an lor controller yet, but I'm sure it will work now. I know that I will have 3 cat5 cables coming from the house but I'm cool with that. (My nephew works as a programmer at ISU and gets me all the cat5 cables I need). I don't plan on adding anymore LOR in the future so I'm not worried about that (xlights only supports 96 channels on the LOR dongle which is what I have). Thanks guys for all your tips. I'm sure I will have plenty more issues in the future.

I run 3 LOR 16 channel A/C controllers and 5 LOR CCR units all with a single cat5 cable from the house.  Just get yourself a Falcon Pi Player up and running and then run all the LOR stuff in DMX mode.  It actually makes the LOR equipment perform better.  Before I switched away from the USB I was having to split my data between two USB dongles because the LOR equipment couldn't handle the network traffic using their protocol without lag in my effects.  After switching to FPP and using E1.31 everything runs great and setup is so much easier.
