Bit Rate

I have a few questions on Audio bit rate as I have seen some notes where it should be set at 192kbps.

1).  Should all mp3 songs be set at constant 192kbps?

2).  I have some mp3 songs at 128kbps.  Should they be re sampled at 192kbps or will 128kbps work the same?

3). If this is still an issue.  Are there plans to support bit rates other than 192kbps?

The 192k constant bit rate suggestion came from the observation that if you moved to a specific spot in the sequence and hit play, the audio would be a up to a couple of seconds off.

Through trial end error we found that a 192k, CBR took care of that.  Before this was discovered, sequencing that last minute in a 4 minute song meant that you had to hit play at the beginning of the song and wait 3 mins until the sequence got there.

Now you just save to 192CBR and hit play from any spot and the audio should be perfect.

The problem is because we are using whatever is the default player on your system to do the seek and play from a starting point.  Windows media player does not always seek to the exact position you tell it to when you are using files with MP3 compression.  Playing from the beginning always works.  There are bit rates other than 192K CBR that work but that one seems to always work for everyone.  For us to support the other bit rates means coming up with an alternate way to play the audio that doesn't involve using os provided media players so it's not something likely to happen very soon.

I'm good with 192Kbps.  Most of the songs I have can be exported down.  I just have some that are 128Kbps that I'm not sure how they will work.  I'll have to test it and see.

wehn i did some testing 128k, 144k, 192k all worked the same. the key was gfetting the cbr (constant bit rate). Amazon files are around 150kbits, variable bit rate.

the default with audacity when you do export audio is to create a 192k CBR file. i just go through my amazon files and take 5 seconds to make 192k cbr files

Don, there's a huge debate amongst the audiophiles whether 128k is sufficient enough. I think most normal folks don't care or can't tell the difference.

As a previous LSP user , everything was 128 CBR and I simply continued down that track...

C'mon gerry even if you had to resample a few songs it shouldn't cause a heart attack.

Yes , but I now have about 11-12 at different stages with a combination of {imported from LSP via data layers , one via the import function plus xlights added to them in some models}, some singing faces (purchased)imported via LMS , a few completely done in xlights , some with papagayo faces created and imported , dabbled with Gled and Jinx this week (VU meter ) - almost there , some gifs for the P!0 panels when I get them working..

Was not sure what possibly having the wrong bit rate meant , but had horrific visions of the lights not being aligned to the music when I actually went to run it and having to do it all again

The only thing you have to do is open with Audacity and choose export. The default is 192kb CBR. You should be able to do 10 songs in 2 minutes or less.

All songs play correctly whether cbr or vibe. The only reason to have cbr files is so u can click in the middle of a song and have windows start correctly. To
