My P10 Panels
« on: June 29, 2015, 05:28:20 AM »
Hello

I have my P10 panels working !
Below is a link to a short video showing it working with a few effects chucked on , but my point and shoot  camera does not it any justice and probably is not keeping up with the fps.
The actual effects are very smooth and bright.

I currently have 4 panels connected to a Beaglebone (BBB) running the Falcon player and running a short xLights sequence.
I have another 4 panels , but I need a longer flat ribbon cable (as the ones supplied were mostly tiny and good for panels side by side but too short to connect  panels vertically above each other), plus need to construct a backing board to support the panels better , before adding more .

Many thanks to Darylc who demonstrated the entire setup at the Sydney mini and AussiePhil and others who provided invaluable guidance on installing and configuring the image , FFF software , plus others on this forum who advised on configuration details and where to get bits and pieces.

I was also provided assistance in soldering the pins and thingys on the Octoscroller  this weekend.

I am most rapped , considering that at of the beginning of last month , I was just starting with xLights and had never seen either a PI or heard off a BBB and now have sequences on both running with these panels! All because of the huge amount of information shared on this and other forums.

I'm kinda curious if you going to be using these outdoors and if so how are you protecting them from rain?

Sorry, I remembered to change it on two out of three forums.  :)

No, I will be placing the panels inside the house window against the glass.
In addition to the rain, in our Summer here , we get very hot days and evenings and high UV, so am not sure how the whole thing would withstand the elements if placed outside considering their low cost.

Hello,

Over the last few weeks , I have setup my config (FP on a BBB) for my P10 panels , then tried a few things , then moved it to a standalone show network and then used a master (Pi FPP) run the same sequence on the FP BBB to drive the panels . Progressively moving to my final setup.

I had a few questions on different definitions and a fair bit of trial and error and so have attached a document of my setup and definitions and a few steps that I went through.

Hope this is of use.

Shucks ! That's going to be a big display. Is this one matrix or two ? And what layout ?

I do get a lot of joy with this activity and many such as Sean , Gil , Dan , Steve etc give us far more !

Cant believe that only two years ago , I had no idea what animated lighting (or even Pixel lighting) was and actually went back to the Tuppet's place in the day to 'closely look at ' what sort of lights they had that could change color like that :)

Actually I thought it was too small but didn't want to bite off too much for the first one.  It's going to be 4x5 which gives 128x80 pixels just like the one I borrowed for my presentation at the Expo.   Its only barely over 4' wide and I really would like 6' to 8' wide but the channel count gets crazy.  I showed my wife a quick clip of my presentation and she thought it was a TV...lol.

65" TVs are starting to be comparatively cheap. :)

Yeah but half the hobby for me is I need to be challenged.  There's no challenge in displaying video on a TV.
