release 4.1.9
« on: June 30, 2015, 07:54:25 AM »
In this release Dan Kulp and Gil Jones have added the ability to define a NULL controller in the SETUP page. Why?
There are people who are creating matrices with P10 panels. These panels (8x16 rgb node panel for $11) are creating very large channel count.
Some users have a single matrix that has over 100,000 channels.
Before you would have specified a E1.31 controller even though that is NOT how people would drive them. People are using the FPP software running on a Beagle Bone Black SBC with the octoscroller. http://falconchristmas.com/forum/index.php/board,51.0.html
So with this release you can define a block of channel with no controller. You still create models and everything the same. After saving the sequence to an fseq file you send it to teh FPP usb flash drive where your show will run from.

So in summary, NULL controllers are for people who have P10 matrix panels and allows you to basically allocate a pile of channels so models work.

Also in this release Gil has updated the "New Sequence Wizard". We have had people become confused with the fourth prompt. Remember the prompts
1) Click New Sequence Wizard
2) Select "Musical Sequence"
3) Select the mp3 file you will use
4) Select the frame timing. <= This is what has been changed to make it clearer

This 4th prompt was NOT indicating timing marks, it indicated what frame timing we would use. So if you pick 20fp (50ms), then when we create effects we will create 20 frames per second.

Well Dan gets all the credit for the NULL controller work.  All I did was check the file into the CodeBlocks project.

To be honest I thought everyone was going to love having Views but it didn't even rank high enough to get mentioned. :)

tom, i think gil was referring to the fact that i did not mention them.

A release always has the release notes, those are written by the developers.

Sometimes i add my comments above the release notes to expand or clarify. I did not mention views, i now have.

Yeah I was just kidding hence the smiley face.  It helped solved a couple issues like now you don't have to go through and add a boatload of models when you create a new sequence.  Just define a View and then select it anytime you create a new sequence.   And you don't need to have all your models displayed at the same time anymore.

I thought the LAS timing imports was the highlight of this release. Not everyone has P10 panels but everyone can import a LAS sequence :)

Not everyone can import a LAS sequence.  I don't even know what that is.  LOL  I gave up using LOR years ago.

Well you might not know but the inside joke is that adding the LAS option to the timing import was Steve's first action as a developer modifying and checking in a code change. ;)

Just confirming that for the Null controller/network type , it is not possible to change an existing setup ie one should delete a row and then add it again .

For example , if I have my P10 channels defined on Universe 30...35 as E131 , I need to delete those from the setup and then add back as Null.

Then open an existing sequence and save it again ?

That timing selection page in the new sequence wizard that I just modified there was actually some thought put into the color selection.  The 40fps is the fastest so it got smokin hot red.  The 20fps is the typical and historical frame time so it got the green means go everything ok color.  The 10fps is the slowest so it got the cool blue can't move because it's too cold color. :)

Hi,
I got a crash on xlights 4.1.9
Steps:
 1. open xlights (previously did a setup)
 2. click on the Sequencer tap
 3. Double click in the main sequencer window (nothing defined yet)
4  crash after the double click

Thanks!
Russ
