I'm still learning NC4. Is that something that is available while the sequence is already setup or is that something that has to be set up at the first of the sequence. Would be nice to be able to add all that stuff while the sequence is in progress. But still looks cool though.

Dan is showing you that next release you will be able to do the Beats and Bars detection directly in xLights using any of the Vamp plugins you have installed for Audacity.  You will be able to use it at any time.

OMG!
That is awesome news!  I really wished I had downloaded this sooner. I would be more up on it than I am now. Pretty intuitive though. Ya'll have really done a nice job with this version.

Hi Robert,
You can add timing marks in at any time .
After creating them Aay in audacity ; in xl, on the sequencer tab , right click on the left column (where it says Imported Timing) and use the 'import timing track' option.
You can add multiple timing tracks eg one for beats , one for bars etc and switch between them by selecting which one you want to use.

xl uses the timing marks as a guide only , the effects are not tied to timing marks.

Use the Audacity program with vamp plugins to get all kinds of timing mark-ups (beat, bar, etc), then use that in XL.

If you want to just pound out the beats or rhythm, you can use xlTap found on the same page as the xlights software (very easy/basic tapper for creating timing marks).

I just downloaded 4.1.12. Watched the video Sean released. I was giggling the whole video with excitement. Wow. Ask and you will receive. That is what I was looking and asking for!

How can you add more vamp timing after you start a sequence? I know you can import more, but where do you point the directory to?

You don't hit Import you hit the New button.

Gil I'm talking about when a sequence is in progress. You have choices of Add, Delete, Import. In those I can't find any vamp plugins. Am I missing a different place or key function? I thought NEW was only available when starting a new sequence.

Robert, I have successfully used the VAMP analysis on a New sequence but, like you, I don't see it available once the sequence is past the "New" phase.

If the past predicts the future, that will probably change in another update. :)

Have none you of ever browsed the Sequence Settings dialog after you created a sequence?  It has a Timings tab that has the New button I keep talking about.  There is also a tab where you can import Data Layers as well as change the media file and length and the metadata info.

Not a newbie, but I didn't look deep enough. There are a lot of things in the Sequence Settings dialog. Time for me to spend less time on Hardware and more time on Software!

In a 4.2.5 sequence

Inserted Bars and Beats and now going through the song manually to insert timing marks on the vocals.

I pressed "T" and inserted a bunch of them.

Now when I have the "New timing" selected I see the timing marks I inserted but when I drag an effect over it doesn't land in between two timing marks, it covers the entire song.

I have two models in the sequence and the drag and drop effects work fine with the bars and beats timing marks.

Why?

Edit:  I deleted the new timing marks and went through the process again and now it works.  Any clue what caused it to not work the first time?

When you dragged the effect , which timing grid was active
- ie in the small circle on the left hand side - u can have one or multiple "selected"

xl however will only use one active one .

Without going into too many details here , I would guess that when u dropped the effect, there was no timing grid active but u could still see vertical lines.
or what was active was the default timing grid , but u added all the marks to the bars one which then was not the active one when u dropped the effect
