I have only used custom models for my singing goes and used excel.
Don't know about the transparent picture stuff
But you must have something else in mind. What sort of picture do you want to make a custom model off  ?

There are a few how to videos already posted out there. Here is one of them.

This is a good video and I will add that if you hold the shift key while creating the circle/oval, the circle will be a perfect circle instead of an oval.

This along with many other excellent videos can be found on the Nutcracker Wiki Tutorials page.

Yes I can.  What are you wanting done?  I can do it for you if you send me pic,  channel count, and desired starting point (or pic of wiring if lights already in object).  You can then just copy the model into your rgb_effects.xml file.  This is how I created Boscoyo chromaflakes at the expo.

The video further below in the other post shows you how to create a model from scratch into your display.  If you know someone already has the model displayed in their show/layout, you can have them copy the model from their xlights_rgbeffects.xml file and then paste it in to yours (changing the start channel to match your display and making sure you place the physical lights in the same order as the custom model).

Here is another thread along those lines (copying an existing custom model into your display/layout)...http://nutcracker123.com/forum/index.php?topic=1429.new#new
