Models not showing up in "House Preview"
« on: August 02, 2015, 09:59:23 AM »
I have several models not showing up in the "House Preview" box.  There is no overlap in my channel layout and by default the "Part of my display" is checked.

Every single model in this test display is a "Single Line"; "RGB Node type ranging from 1 node to 25 nodes.

I have clicked the "Update" button and the green "Gear" button--no love

Can anyone point me to my problem?  I have only downloaded one version is that is 4.1.13

Is it correct that when I am in the "Model setup" dialog box, that I define the start channel on one particular model, as say 181, and if I am on Universe 4, then I enter 4 in the "From Output" box?

Do you have any model groups?
If so, if any of the model groups are selected the layout >model groups> select model groups   only those models in the model groups will show.

De-Select all model groups and everything will show on your layout.

The from output box is only used for those folks that like to use channel numbers per universe.  In my case I use pixelnet devices and all my channels are numbered sequentially so I only have 1 output per 4096 channels.  But if you like to number your channels by universes of 512 then you can have a channel 1 on output 1 (chans 1-512) and a channel 1 on output 2 (chans 513-1024), etc.  Your choice.

De-Select all model groups and everything will show on your layout.

That was the problem.  I deleted the groups and everything showed back up.  Why is that the case?

You didn't need to delete them.  Steve said to "de-select" them.  Only the selected ones will show up or if you de-select them all then we show everything that has the part of my display checked so that's why he gave you that advice.

Jim,

I am reviewing some of my first posts and have a question about this post
.
Example:  Mega tree with 16 strings/150 nodes per string/0 strands
I have a 16 port controller and want to plug one string into each of the 16 ports.  The controller does 510 channels/1 string per port/1 universe per port.

It looks like I could follow your reply if my model was only one universe or less, but because the model is more than one universe, I don't see a way  to number string 1 as univ 1 channels 1-450; string 2 as univ 2 channels 1-450 and so on.  Even clicking "Individual Start Chans" doesn't get me there.

I don't yet know if I want to do this, just asking for clarification.

Charles we don't use universe numbers we use the raw absolute channel numbers and that's how we stay agnostic to whatever hardware you will output the data to.  So when you want to define something as universe 2 channel 1 you need to type in whatever channel that universe starts at on your setup page.  So if you define 510 channels in output 1 you would use 511 for the start channel for a universe 2 channel 1 model.  If you define 512 channels in output 1 then you use channel 513, etc.  Not everything uses universes so way before my time xLights was designed to use a flat numbering system.  There is a "From Output" field on the model which can be used to reference to model to an output number like you could say From Output = 2 and then use start channel 1 which would map to #channels in output1 + 1.  I don't recommend that method because outputs don't always align with universe numbers but if they do for you then you can use that technique.

Gil,

OK, thanks for the clarification and no, mine will not align and thus there is a potential for confusion down the road.

I ordered product from Ray on August 14th and he still has not shipped my nodes and P10's yet.  It would help if I actually had stuff here to hook up.

Follow up question.  Once I get my set-up in xLights and I am ready to put the set-up in FPP for the Pi2 master, Pi2 remote for projector only and BBB/octoscroller remote for P10 panels only, do I input my entire 74,000 channel set-up to each of the three or only those channels which the respective Pi2 or BBB is controlling?

I haven't done the master / slave FPP setup before but I will be doing it this year so I'm not 100% sure.  I know there is a way to run it where the master won't send all the data to the slave it will just send a sync packet.  Someone explained it the other day but I'd have to find the post.  For the BBB running the P10 panels I don't think you need to setup the universes since it's in slave mode.  I think you just configure the attached panels and you will have the sequences stored locally so it just receives the sync packet and plays the sequence.  So I'm guessing you don't need to define the BBB's P10 channel on any of the other FPP units.

By the way Charles I remember watching your house on the light fight show.  Nice work with the house mapping.  I've got a projector I was possibly going to use to add some background accents this year.  I tested it and the main problem is I don't have much surface area that shows up well...it's like my house is 70% dark red roof tiles.  I have a sweet 2 story wall on the side of my house so I was pondering the idea to project onto that wall and create a display where folks could walk into my backyard.  There is road behind my house so that wall is visible from multiple directions just not a great angle from directly in front of the house.  The ultimate would be to create a water show with my pool.

Gil,

We do a multi-media show at the State Fair of Texas where people are on both sides of a 600' long rectangular reflecting pool of water.  As part of the show, we put spray nozzles in the water with a wide spray and project on the spray.  It is a really cool effect in that an image seemingly comes out of nowhere.
You could do that from your pool. :)
