Megatree Height
« on: August 13, 2015, 12:25:55 PM »
What height do you normally use for your Megatree based on the length of your strips
Each strip that I have will be 15 feet, how tall should the megatree be?

Thanks

standard ratio is diameter at bottom is 1/2 the height. so your final height is somewhere around 13'

I guess my question would be, where you did you get the size for the base?
Thanks

take half of the length of a side (7 1/2' = half of 15').

You can make your tree any size you want, i am just suggesting that most people have a tree where the base diameter is half the length of a side.

Robo--don't take this wrong--but are you sure your strings are 15' long?    I am assuming they are bullet nodes?    The reason I ask is that if you are using strips and they are 5m long, they are more like 16' 5" in length.   Just asking.   For my strips I just go ahead & "think metric" since that's how the strips are cut...

No problem danj, yes, they are bullet nodes  :)
Doesn't hurt to ask, I would have asked the same question.

Thanks

Good deal!   I did my first megatree last year and I pretty much copied Sean's youtube "how to"--same type of topper, same "branches", etc...   It looked really great.   But it took me MUCH longer to solder up all the connectors and get it up & running than expected.   So last year was pretty much a fail for me--I had electronics issues that I did not have time to troubleshoot due to the really long time to build my mtree.  Big bummer.   Starting much earlier this year!   Megatrees are awesome...  I am doing 5m strips on my 2nd megatree this year, so my 2nd megatree will be on the order of 15' tall.   Will be interesting to see it in perspective to last year's 3m strip-based megatree....

I will have 1 with 15 feet and 2 with 6 feet on the side.
It will be awesome.
