Help with the Single Strand Chase Effect
« on: August 28, 2015, 06:53:47 PM »
I have 25 pixels each around windows and garage doors and I can't get the chase effect to go around in a circle.  It lights up one side or the other (depending on your direction), goes across, then lights up the other side.  I am using the same effect for eaves, and it is working.  I am using the custom model for the window frame for both the windows and the garage.
Thanks

Edit:  I haven't tested this yet, only in the preview window.

I believe there was a topic on FB last week or so about this very thing.  One of the tips given was to use the Pinwheel effect on the model to get the chase effect.

You may have best results by making a single strand model pointed to the same channels. So you will have two models per window. Then the effects should work.

The pinwheel effect works, but it seems to be a non-standard fix. I am pretty sure if I make a straight line model, the windows will work fine.  It may be that the window model is working from one side to the other instead of a single strand.
I will research Facebook and see if I can find that thread.

So the Marquee did not work on the window.   It really appears as though the window model is made for 4 different strips instead of a continuous string of lights.  I don't have it set up for a custom model, or a matrix.
I will change my model to a string of pixels, although it will not wrap around the window,  it will work fine.

Leave your window model as is and create a new single line model (not part of your display) encompassing all of the channel numbers from your window model.

Place this new model on the sequencing grid to apply effects to it and see what you get in the when you view the house model.  You should be able to get your chase effect with the new model.  I've done this with my arches and can get chases across all 4 models.

The problem is with the way that the window model was created (something to do with it being a matrix).  It is a known problem.  KevinP gave you the answer and it works good.  I've done that for 2 years now.  You need the window model for the "part of my display", but you need the single strand line model for sequencing and you turn off the "part of my display" checkbox.

I just created a Window Frame model and the Marquee works great on that model.  Can you show me a screenshot of you window model properties?  I just made my test model 15 nodes top, 20 nodes side, 15 nodes bottom.

This is exactly what I am seeing in the window effect.   This is the perfect fix as it allows me to do both effects.
Thanks for the very nice video and how to.

My window model is attached.
