Horizontal Single Strand
« on: September 17, 2015, 05:31:10 PM »
Hi

Cant find an answer to this..and I have been playing with most things...

Is there an easy way to implement something like the single strand effect on a mega-tree, but instead of traversing left to right, it can go up and down???

or do I need to muck about with groups of nodes to accomplish this??

Cheers

If you want them to be separate The only way I have been able to do it is to make separate single strands. You can use the curtain effect to bring them up and down as a group.

If your mega tree has 24 strands, then make 24 single strands matching the numbers of the mega tree strands, but do not check the part of my display. That way they can be part of your sequence and you can put effects on them and when you play the sequence you will see the effect on the tree because you have matched the rgb numbers. This can get tedious and I am sure the smart guys are probably working on something or I may have just missed it myself.

Just my thought

Have you tried the Marquee effect?  You can change it's size so that its a single row or column if you want.

Another option would be to use the Morph effect.

Use the effect assist window to adjust the effect so that it uses a narrow rectangular vertical band.

Then u can use layers to stagger the effect

I saw a video from Gil or Steve which explained this and another one I think which had 'arrows" zooming upwards on a mega tree ... which looked quit cool...

I managed to do something similar for my Panels , but have no idea in which sequence it is :)

The bars effect will go up and down, but it does do the whole tree at once.

Just an update as the Halloween bit has now been done and back to modifying the Xmas ones...

Following Brads post I have managed to get the result I was after

I have split the tree into 12 blocks using custom models and assigning the node numbers and can now use them in my sequences.

Thnks for the suggestions and help

If tended to expand the megatree  out to strand level and then apply single strand effects to each strand to make things go up and down etc.

Why not use bars with black as one of the colors?   That  might do what you are looking for....

I think you're doing it the hard way if you're creating 24 extra models.  Just use the marquee like I suggested since you can move it's position over to any strand you want.

Hi Gil

I did try Marqee but i couldn't get exactly the effects I needed unfortunately
(But will be using it for non music sequences)

I needed to split the tree in to the 12 blocks to tie in with how I did it previously
Then have full control on the illumination of each block individually!!
(Problem with retrofitting my imagination!!!!!)

When in the standalone sequences I can use a straight 180pixel tree and apply effects as normal

I know I never do anything easy, but XLights does make it easy to do these little personalisation .

I don't think anyone answered this question, but single strand goes from start of string to end of string.  Even if you have it mounted in a coil.

I answered it.  I said you can use the Marquee to go up a single column but then he decided he wanted squares around the tree.  That can be done using the colorwash with multiple layers and limiting the boundaries
