If you inadvertently have more than one timing track selected on the sequencer tab, you will not be able to drop an effect.  In the subsequent opening and closing the application you most likely clicked on a timing track, did not even know it and that allowed the effect to be placed.

Steve,

That wasn't it.  I made a correction to my original post.  I could drop any effect, but none of them would show up on neither the house preview, model preview nor layout screens.  This even hapened on a new sequence AND happened after closing and restarting.  Very weird.  Can't image what I did to cause that--especially after non-stop successful programming for three days prior to that.

Just a note that if you have the same element in multiple groups, when playing back it is the top most groups effect that wins.  The bottom groups effects are overlayed by the upper ones in your model list in the sequencer as effects are rendered.

Jim,

I think I have already ran across that one.  I had 7 particular models in two groups, so I could sort them differently for chases and something didn't work out---probably the situation you just described.

What method do you use for sorting? Views? Groups? Other?

Thanks for the tip.

I have models that duplicate each other, but I only sequence to one and only one is part of my display, The one that is part of my display is not necessarily the one that I sequence to.  Last year I had the issue with using a wholehouse model which wiped out everything I tried to do individually do to rendering order.  Solved that problem by putting the whole house model so that it would render first.  So far this year I have not used any wholehouse models or groups and no duplicate elements so no problems yet.  When I am doing a sequence I just put all models in even if I am not going to do anything with them and they end up in alpha order, but I don't have enough lines to scroll off the screen so it is not a problem for me.

If you have two views , you can define the models in different sequence in each view , by using the arrows to move up and down ..

Jim , you can also use model groups.

So in View A , define the model groups only (say 5) . Then using View A, you will see 5 entries , one for each group. You can double click on each group and it will expand to show  the models in that group, leaving the remaining collapsed !  Double click again to close that group .

Charles - you could define two groups with the models in diff order in each and do this...

Gerry I'm not sure what you're getting at with the views suggestion but to be clear the rendering order is defined by the order of the elements in the sequence a.k.a the Master View.  All the other views you create have no impact on render order.
