EQ
« on: October 08, 2015, 08:17:05 PM »
Nutcracker/Xlights team,

Thanks for all the great work that you invest into making our sequencing enjoyable and remarkable.  I wanted to request an equalizer effect similar to this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TS7Yq7OQRqA but if it had the colors that were included in the picture it would be awesome.

I have some columns and other vertical elements that an EQ effect would look great on.

Thanks!

Use Jinx! or Glediator. The glediator effect in Nutcracker now supports the Jinx! .out file as an input file type.

With Jinx! you can create the EQ effect as posted here in the past.

Here is what it can look like on a megatree.

Thanks for the info on Jinx. First I had heard about that. Very simple to use to.

Jinx! has a cleaner/smoother interface than Glediator and has better audio input support to generate the EQ/VU effects.  Some computer audio cards do not support internal loop back and thus will not be able to generate an EQ effect natively. Those folks will need to run a male to male cable from the LINE OUT to the LINE IN on their audio cards to get the sound back into the computer for effect processing.

Glediator has better preset effects.  NC now supports both .out and .gled files for use via the Glediator effect.

Do you know if there is a way to isolate the frequencies? For example. I have 3 columns and would like to use Jinx to separately record the low frequencies, then midrange then high frequencies so that I could use each effect on its own column.

Is there a way to crop?  Basically, I want to make an EQ effect for about 20 seconds of audio, but I am not seeing a good way to start the output and audio at the same time.  So, I start the output first, then the audio, however, the effect has a few seconds of waste at the beginning.

Any insight would be greatly helpful.

Thanks,
James

I think the general thought is nobody can really tell whether the frequencies actually match up with the audio so you could probably use any song and not worry about alignment.  People keep wanting us to build this in but right now there is no access to the waveform inside the effect render routines.

No way to crop but there is a workaround I've figured out for exactly what your'e asking for.

Let's assume you have a 5 second EQ effect and it doesn't really start moving until second 1.
Drag the start of the EQ effect into the timing mark BEFORE you want to start the EQ so that second 1 is right on the start mark.  Now use bars, or color wash with black to layer mask the first second of the EQ effect.

Hope that made sense.

Timing marks   x          x           x          x
EQ Effect                 |------------------|
Mask via Black         |--|
EQ Shown                    |--------------|
