I'm considering the waterproof p10s. I've already ordered the non waterproof p10s in a pre-sale so I'm not sure if I can change.

I would also like to see what it would look like to join two pieces of lexan and see how noticeable the joint is.

My matrix is going outside but it will be covered (front porch) so I can get away with not being completely waterproof.

I just order a sample of the 40 and the 60 gauge vinyl. If work that will save a lot on my next project.
The waterproof P10 I think are the way to go.

Did you try using vinyl on the p10 panels? If so, how did it work out?

@Phrog30
I was wondering how your P10 matrix is holding up?  I am considering one and I wanted to make a larger one like yours.  Any comments (besides what you already wrote) now that you made it through Halloween and are into Christmas?  Anything you would do different?

Is it ~ 7.3ft wide x 3.15ft tall?

I have a few comments to make. Might be later tonight until I can write something up.

Here are some pics:
I don't have any photos after painted and the vinyl cover on the front.
My biggest issue now is trying to get the BBB's to be reliable.  They are very flaky.

The vinyl works well.  I don't notice any glare, however, I didn't do a great job on installation.  There are some wrinkles, which are somewhat noticeable during the day.  At night, you can't tell any difference.  That issue is my laziness.  When the vinyl shipped, I should have removed from the box and laid out in the sun for a few hours.  Because I didn't, it was hard to get the creases out from where it was folded during shipping.  The vinyl is great at water proofing.  My matrix is covered (by my front porch), so I didn't do much in water proofing the box, but I'm confident it would be water proof if I would have caulked the joints.  If my matrix wouldn't have been covered, I would have tested with a water hose before installing the panels, just to ensure water tight joints.

You asked:
"Is it ~ 7.3ft wide x 3.15ft tall?"
It is actually 11 panels (69.2") by 7 panels (88.1").  My next post will show a layout.

I used Boscoyo parts for joining each panel.  I then used aluminum angle to stiffen each "row".  Then attached the angle to the enclosure via 90° brackets, you can see in one of the photos.  This worked well.

I started off using 80/20, but that didn't work out well, so good ole' lumber was used.  It is sturdy enough for what I needed.

I hope this was helpful info and I didn't ramble too much.  I'm in multitask mode and that sometimes means confusion.

I'm on a project right now, but I can try to take some close ups when I'm done.

Thanks for the info and the pics!!!  When you say vinyl, do you mean a clear sheet of flexible vinyl?  What was your thought going with that over plexi/lexan?  How did you attach the vinyl, staples (seems like it would slowly rip the vinyl, so I am guessing not)?

Wow, that is much bigger than I thought you made (I thought you did 7x6).  Are your pretty happy with the results?  How about doing simple animations/videos?  I bet the weight is pretty extreme, would you do anything different with the overall design?

I've seen a few concerning posts about the BBB, makes me think if I go this route that I should go with a Pi and maybe ronp's board for it....

I would recommend using P5s with Rons.
The price is a little higher but the resolution would be awesome. I doing this myself.

Who sells P5s?  Are the physical dimensions the same (so that it would work with the Boscoyo strips)?  I assume the power consumption is twice as much since the density is doubled?  Anything else different that is of concern (like programming them)?  How many P5s can RonP's board handle?  And lastly, what size are you making (that enough questions?)?  Thanks!

This is the link for the P5

https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/64x32pixel-P5mm-Indoor-SMD-3in1-full-color-LED-Display-Screen-unit-panel-module-size-320mm-x/701799_32667937844.html?spm=2114.12010608.0.0.X9DMwx

Email Ray to get a good price.

I am using Rons because of the refresh rate 1/16.
I am not sure about the size or how many, I had an idea last year after going to TSO show :-) That would probably need close to 100 panels :-(

I was going to create one that is about 6ft tall by 3 wide, so I could use the 3D effects from Atmosfx, I am glad I didn't do it, because around here, they don't like Halloween much.

I have not powered them yet to see the consumption, which I am not really to concern about it, since I only use 1x 300W PSU for my 42x P10.

Vinyl, like shower curtain. I got a pretty big piece at a farm supply place for around $40. Lexan or plexiglass would have been expensive, and hard to do. I have one piece. I stapled on the sides, then put a small piece of aluminum angle to protect and further secure in place.

The vinyl is somewhat think, seems like it should hold up. I can try and send a link later.

I'm happy with the overall design. It's not that heavy, but awkward. I wanted to build something modular, which I could easily manage smaller sections, but couldn't come up with anything. For the longest time I was waiting on boscoyo, he was supposed to come up with something but I never saw anything.

I was all set on making a 6x6 p10 matrix next year... now I need to consider these p5's instead. I also already have a bbb/octoscroller (and a few p10's) for testing but it sounds more and more like a pi with rons board is much more reliable.
