RobertB--do what Sean said because that will obviously be the best way.  If I remember correctly, I exported my six arches' effects (entire sequences) from XL/NC into an LOR dummy file, then cut/pasted the contents from the dummy LOR file (there is an LOR command along the lines of "copy everything to the end"--I used that0 into the "real" LOR sequence file.  Knuckle dragging way but it worked really well.

RobertB--I would encourage you to just JUMP IN and start using XL/NC.  Last year was my first year to sequence and I used LOR S3 as my sequencer.  I jumped into pixels about this time last year (which was pretty late for me because all this computer stuff takes me time to understand...).  Anyway, I had been introduced to XL/NC at a Mississippi mini so I decided to try my hand at XL/NC.  It is extremely straightforward to use.  I setup effects for six RGB arches in XL/NC then exported them into a dummy LOR file I made just for imports, then cut/pasted them into my LOR sequences.  It worked really well.  There are probably more sophisticated methods of doing this but I didn't have a lot of time to learn so that's how I did it last year.  My two cents.

I may have missed something is there a way to have the channel and universe information from XL/NC transfer to LOR.  When I open the file in LOR I get the sequence fine but no patch or channel information.  With over 20 universes of XL/NC sequences that is lot of channels to create in LOR

I plan on exporting the XL/NC to a LOR file per effect then use it as a sub sequence within LOR.

I would use XL/NC as the sequencer but I have a bunch of LOR windows command line batch files that run my video switcher, projector, RDS already working!

Ken, are u exporting lms or lcb? I think lcb would be easier. Lcb, lor clip board, files are loaded and then u can just paste wherever u want the effect. Maybe lor people could explain how they use xlights.

Hi Sean, I have a 16 strand mega tree in which the strands go up to the top of the tree and then come down on the same side ( What LOR called Wedge model).

while creating a model in NC how do I tell the software that my strands are wrapped in a wedge model.

thank you.

Sounds like a 180 tree.  My 8 strings of lights go halfway up the string and then turn and come back down right next to the up side.  My model is 8 strings 16 strands in a 180 model.  It works great. Is that what you mean by going up and coming back down on the same side?

It is a 360 degree tree - 16 strands going up from the bottom of the tree to the top and then coming down on the same side - so 32 strands in total.

Also I created a megatree model in NC and exported it is a LOR file . named megatree.lcb

How do I open this in S3 and paste onto my LOR sequence. am not able to import.

Thanks much

I was exporting LAS.  I guess the real question do I need to add all of channels assignments to LOR directly or does XL/NC export that info.

thanks!  I really light what XL/NC does now just to figure out this last thing!

So you have 16 strings with each string in 2 strands.  I don't know what a wedge model is, but if the down strand is right next to the up strand then that is all it takes besides your starting postition and the number of nodes per string to describe it in a nutcracker model.

Thanks Jim. I was not able to reproduce the models correctly on my tree and was wondering if it has anything to do with the way my strands are wrapped.

Ranjanpa--as Sean has noted many many times, exporting XL/NC into LOR is a painful way to do things....   I did what you are looking to do when I added RGB arches to my 2013 display and it worked well.   I set effects for my 6-60 RGB arches in XL/NC, then exported the entire XL/NC xseq file into a dummy LOR LMS file.  I then copied each row (each arch group containing all 60 RGBs--180 channels each arch...) from the dummy file and pasted each row into the target LMS file.  I saved the target LMS file then used LOR to run everything.  That worked really well, but I only had 1080 channels total.  If you have lots more channels, LOR will get really slow.

I also have done a fair amount of copy and paste. 19 U 2200 rgb on just the mefg tree. There are certain things you may need to do to your computer to make sure it will work at its best when dealing with LOR and be patient it will get slow. You should look into the the 4g patch and make sure in LOR that you have turned off a check mark in the sequence editor\edit\preferences\network preferences\options\use compatibility mode for old MC-P channel controllers.

If  can every get my brain around all of this I will get away from LOR

Have fun
It only gets better from here.
