Missing Models
« on: November 03, 2015, 09:29:57 PM »
I am sure I am missing something, but I can't seem to figure out what it is.  I seem to be missing models/display elements on my sequencer tab.  I have them toggled as part of my display, I can see them on the list of possibilities when I go to edit display elements, but nothing shows up in the list of models for dropping effects.  Also, when I play the show, the effects that were on these models don't seem to show up.

The best example of this are my trees.  I have 4 trees, each made up of 8 AC strings, so the first 32 channels are set up for these.  I made model groups last year for each of the trees (tree 1 to tree 4), and the different colors for each tree (red, green, blue, white), as well as a model for all the trees.  I can't get any of these to show up.

I am not sure if it matters or not, but the original sequence was created in Vixen 2.x.  Last year I moved over to xlights 3.x, and added some additional elements and effects.  These "new" effects seem to be playing fine now in xlights 4.2.19, but I am missing all the older stuff.

I have attached the files I think would be needed to see the problems, but let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks.

On Layout tab click the Model Groups button and unselect the box for "Test Tree".  You currently have it set to filter down to only models within that group.  By unselecting all groups you will see everything.

Just tried that and still nothing.  Tried turning all model groups on too, and that didn't help either.

Yes it will work you must not be in the right spot.  I just downloaded your files and tried it.  You hit the Select Model Groups button and uncheck the box.

I attached a screenshot that shows all your models after unchecking the box and then I rechecked the box to show you which one.  You gotta close the dialog after you change the checkboxes to see it update maybe you forgot to do that.

I think I did what you said correctly.  Attached is a PDF showing some screen shots of the process and showing what I am seeing along the way.

Sorry I was telling you how to get them to show up on the layout tab.  I see some of yours are missing on the sequencer tab.  Not sure if I'll figure that out tonight before I gotta crash.

Ok I see what's wrong.  Your sequence file isn't really formatted correctly.  All the models not showing up have no EffectLayer tag in the XML.  What exactly is your process for creating that sequence file including whether it was converted from 3.x?  Maybe there is an issue in the conversion process no one else ran into.

So for instance the SIGN model looks like this in the XML:
    <Element type="model" name="SIGN"/>

But it should look like this:
    <Element type="model" name="SIGN">
        <EffectLayer/>
    </Element>

I think I figured out my problem trying to respond to you on what I did.  I think I picked the one sequence that I did NOT convert from xlights 3.x to 4.x, and just tried opening the old file.  When I converted, everything was there like I am used to.  Thanks for the help!

Yeah but that XML definitely had some issues.  I was curious how it got that way.  I was thinking maybe it got converted early on when we still had conversion bugs.

I know I converted from Vixen to xlights 3.x, but I can't remember what version or when last year I did that.  That was done using the old conversion process on the convert tab.  Sorry I can't be more detailed, but I can't remember any more details than that.

Yeah but whenever you open a 3.x file in xLights it auto converts to XL4.  I guess as long as you don't see it again we won't worry about it.

These are my version 3 files.  I added the v3 to the file name for uploading only, so it would be easier to keep track of which is which.  But other than that, these are the exact files that I used for my show last year.

I'll add the version 4 files in another post.

These are the files when I opened the previously posted version 3 files in version 4.2.19.  Again, I changed the filenames to keep better track of which files are which so you might need to name then back to try to open them.

These files seem to be missing some of my models and effects when I try to play them as indicated in my initial post.

These are the files when I import the version 3 files.

This works for me fine, so it is what I will be using.  Just wanted to upload the files to show you the difference in case you were interested to see what was happening.
